I have always loved cats and have 1 still currently, but I am starting to feel you on the litter box thing. It never used to be a problem with all the cats I've had, maybe because most were indoor/outdoor(mostly being outdoor) but it is becoming more of a thing with me. It partly has to do with my cat get pretty old(he's 17), and him almost always dragging litter/poop also out when he gets out of the littler box and gets it on stuff/furniture. I still love the little shit though, just a little nasty/annoying.

Cats are great. You bring them home, show them the litter box, and they say "okay, I got it." No training necessary.

I mentioned here before, I have 1 inside cat. She has 2 litter boxes. I clean them every day. It doesn't bother me at all, that may be because I've always had a cat.

The cat sand is different these days then it used to be. It's very light weight and deodorized. I don't smell anything. It helps that I clean the boxes every day. It's just no problem for me.

I guess you either like cats, and will deal with what comes with them, or you don't. Just like people who have and love their dogs and have to take what that brings with it.

PS - I've had older, and sick cats. My cat before my current one was 14 and had Lymphoma. He was sick and had trouble getting to the litter box. We eventually had to euthanize him. It can be a similarly bad situation with an old, sick dog. Just no litter box to have trouble with, lol. My neighbor had an old dog that used the kitchen floor to piss and shit on. Yuck!

I've seen that, and other things like it. They look great, but like I said, I honestly don't have a problem with cats and their litter boxes.

Not really specifically for you I suppose, but other forum members might be interested-- I just linked to your post as it was easiest.

I've had various other automatic litter machines, but this one is by far the best (and by far the most expensive).

But, considering that both my wife and I are gone a lot for our jobs, they're priceless-- we have automatic food, automatic water, and the two Litter Robots. Our two (mostly) Russian Blue's are good solo for a solid four days. Any longer than that, and a neighbor comes over and refills the water and replaces the Litter Robot bag.

Of course, if we're both gone for four-ish days, there will *always* be a price when we get home. As in a "You think you're going to sleep tonight, or be able to sit *anywhere* in this house without me crawling in your lap and ruining your ability to eat, watch tv or use the computer?" sort of price-- but that's just part of the joys of being a cat-servant..... I mean owner.

Your cats sound great! Yeah, I love my cat and her personality. She can be so funny and entertaining. I'm a homebody so I'm mostly always here. I take walks at night and my girl Sam is always at the door when I come home, waiting for me.

Maybe upstatedoc will see your link and be encouraged to get one and then get a cat to go with it, lol. Sounds like a great contraption for people who are either gone a lot, like you guys are, or for people who just don't want to deal with regular litter boxes.
