Very true (and sad). Everything BMW makes except for the 2-series is dead to me pretty much from a driver's standpoint, especially the 5-series. And even this new generation of 2er has me worried.

Looking like they may be going to a single reflector for the headlights low and high. Not sure how that may look.

The headlights and taillights are not looking promising and those two elements alone can make or break the overall look of a car IMO.

Rest of the car looks okay but not anything to write home about at this stage.

I'm getting worried!

The car should look awesome with a powerdome and some proper M pumped steroidal fenders...1M front fenders matched with M2 rear fenders would be perfect in my book

Teamed with an S58 + close ratio 6MT + RWD = Motoring nirvana

Things I like:
- less bulbous looking like prior 2er
- no big grille
- pronounced fenders

Things I dislike:
- looks big and heavy

Agreed. The next M2 is probably the only new car I'd realistically be interested at. The others are either too expensive (think Porsche) or not to my liking design wise (Nissan Z).

If the car has those combos, and is priced at $60k ish, it really stands out and kind of stands by itself. Really looking forward to it actually.

It seems to be some sort of ritual at bmw that the cars must grow 10 inches every generation for some unknown reason. New M4 is now the size of an M6 and so the M2 will now be the size of the old F82.

BMW is not catering to enthusiasts interested in sporty performance.

BMW is catering to a much larger population of consumers that want bigger and more 'practical.'

The enormous G80/82 front grilles are what 2 billion people in China like. . . similar examples in design decision abound.

It seems BMW is at least smart enough to recognize the basis of success behind the F87 and do not appear to be fucking it up with the G87 . . . they still have time.

I'm still expecting it to grow 10 inches, weigh an extra 100-200 lbs, downgrade to electronic handbrake and of course the 8 speed slushbox.

I'm optimistic the G87 will be a winner.

I recently read an article that spoke of a survey in China n=10,000 with around 66% preferring the more traditional 3 series grille to the G22s hideous maw. They did go on to say that the Chinese do have a preference for large grilled vehicles but only when executed "well." Our brethren in East Asia have been referring to the new 4er gob as the "maxi-pad." - certainly a fair assessment from my perspective.

Totally agree! Those headlights look absolutely horrible :

Jason

I figured that was coming

Don't care about the 2-series on track, as I already own a 3500 pound tank in the F87 M2C . . . and quite certain the G model ain't gonna shed any weight over the F series. If I were a tracker, I could do a lot better.

That said, thank you for sharing. The G42 looks pretty damn good for a base 2-series.

So, I'll rinse and repeat. . . looking forward to G87 M2C. I think it will be a great encore to the F87 M2C.

///AVM

P.S. is the G42 running the B58 that is in the Supra?

The great thing about the M2 though is that is seems to be purchased overwhelmingly by enthusiasts. The M3/4 has ventured far off into badge whore territory, but the M2 with its small size, spartan interior, raw driving feel, and lack of streed cred due to the number "2" has kept it away from the types of BMW owners we all hate.

I hope BMW recognizes this and keeps this next generation driver-focused like the current model, because frankly it's the only vehicle remaining in their entire portfolio that maintains the philosophy of the E-chassis models.

Spot on!

The M2C offers exactly what anyone needs to enjoy an enthusiastic driving experience.

It is now up to BMW to take the F87 M2C to the next level with the G87 . . . I am confident they will.

Until then, the M2C is a great ride.
