I had an S. Super fun car and super cheap car. They'll beat you up; little go carts. Also had an F56S that I recently sold. An F car is the way to go if you're looking to daily. Cheap Bimmer with some fun to boot.

a good friend (bmw mechanic) told me to avoid them at all costs.

the idea of owning one sounds fun but i don't want to mess with having it in the shop.

for 4.5 years----i commuted out of NYC----65 miles each way.

A total of 130 miles a day.

i did it in my 1M.

it was f**king phenomenal. Doesn't matter what people say about prices, values, blah blah blah. I'm keeping my 1M for life and it doesn't matter. Your EVERY DAY matters more than special occasions. Every day is an occasion!

I don't have that job anymore----i ended up getting my dream job in Manhattan close to where i live in Brooklyn. Now i take the ferry or uber to work.

But i actually MISS those 130 miles of commute sometimes, because every day was an adventure commuting in the 1M!!! adrenaline rush!

Truck, motorcycle, samurai, polaris ranger and TT roadster all take turns when the weather or situation is right.

One of my friends put in new turbos this past spring, something with the timing/valves in August, and a piston cracked last week. All at about 70K miles on an R54

Okay, the white German girl with the three initials... where'd she get them shoes?

You're a man after my own heart. Although Latina is my next choice Asian is where I'm going with the life lady friend. But for cars - those two Bavarian Beauties are the way to go

Your BMW mechanic is right on the money. I had a 2003 R50 (non-S) which was an absolute blast to drive. The car is so tiny that it always felt like it was flying and that made it super fun. Plus it was a manual and had the super-quick first gen steering, which just added to the unique experience. But... I spent over $10,000 on that car in the 6 years I owned it. Literally one thing after another, and the total mileage on the car was only 115K. The cylinder head replacement ($3000) was the last draw for me.

The 2015 F56 Mini is not quite as fun and darty, but it sure is a lot more comfortable, modern, and reliable. And more BMW-like.
