Definitely interesting to see Musk’s musings deter people. I’m re-upping on another Tesla for sure.

Hence my earlier comment regarding the Volt being made by an American car company.

The facts are Cali wouldn't let Musk build Teslas during the pandemic, it changed his mind politically (woke him up maybe?) so he hightailed it to Texas. Then buying Twitter put the nail in the coffin. Even Uncle Sam has backed out giving him contracts for Mars and grants for Starlink.

Starlink sucks BTW. After nearly 3 years waiting, my ticket came up to get hooked up. I ran the location app this week. The system is designed to work in the desert or location with no trees. NO residential rural area on the east coast has no trees at the horizon. What an effing joke. LOL.

They will come crawling back once they have to deal with the dreadful EA infrastructure. After owning a CCS vehicle, I would not consider another brand until they complete the NACS switch over.

When these brands start switching over. I bet these people will have no problem charging their Benz with NACS port at Tesla superchargers. Elon will gladly take their unapproved Musk hating dollars.

NY bracing for gas and electric bill shock amid green push
Last week, the energy company announced that the state had approved its plan to raise customer rates and acquire more than $11 billion by 2025 to fund initiatives contributing to New York’s clean energy goals.
"I can tell you that customers are going to see a 15%-20% increase over three years as a result of this investment plan," Con Ed’s media relations director said. "This investment plan is going to allow us to address the effects of climate change, invest in a clean energy transition, a transition that our customers demand and want to take part in."

Ford switching priority to hybrid production from EV.

Ford Loses Over $32,000 Per EV During The Second Quarter, Shifts Production Goals

https://www.carscoops.com/2023/07/fo...duction-goals/

Quote:
It’s now expecting a $4.5 billion loss as it just posted a $1.8 billion loss in the second quarter alone. That’s just over $32,000 in losses on every EV that it sold. The pricing wars with Tesla certainly didn’t help that figure.
Quote:
The losses have Ford shifting goals toward hybrids and reducing the priority to build more EVs.
Quote:
Its long-term goal of 2 million EVs per year by 2026 no longer has a hard and fast date according to CNBC.

This isn't restricted to the west coast. The 2 biggest electrical utilities in my area in the Pacific northwest (one of which I work for) are doing the thing, and for the same reason. They are being forced to make changes to their grid that wouldn't otherwise make economic sense.

Since they are regulated monopolies, they get to petition the PUC (public utilities commission) for rate increases, and those increases have and will continue to be granted.

Forcing utilities to morph into something that doesn't make economic sense will get paid for by the end users. Going green aint going to be cheap, and you will get to pay for it. First you will pay more in taxes to subsidize this shit, then your utility bills will go up. Kind of like double penetration.

Whether or not it was necessary or worth it, well I guess we'll find out.

And this is in addition to the push for full transition to EV's which will greatly increase demand. It's a very un-balanced approach to a supposed problem.

This is also coupled with the federal/state/local push to abolish natural gas appliances, and even prohibiting new natural gas service to new homes will just push even more load onto the grid. Load the grid can't serve. Imposing on a grid that already can't meet current demands or consistently get the job done is not the solution to the problem.

Connecticut pushes to halt sale of new gas-powered cars by 2035
Proposed state regulations would require auto dealerships in Connecticut to begin progressively selling more zero- or low-emission vehicles, including passenger cars, SUVs and light trucks, in 2027 and through 2035, until the new mandate would begin.
Connecticut joins Rhode Island, Maryland, New Jersey and New Mexico in announcing plans to adopt the new standards. Massachusetts, New York and Vermont finalized adoption of the rules this year or in late 2022.

Isn't Conn like broke and stuff? This should most certainly help that out.

The squirrel I saw pancaked on the road had more business sense.

I see plates from so many different states these days, when in Texas, that I've lost track.
Wait until they get their first July until Halloween broiler blast lol

Snake oil...

https://www.reuters.com/investigates...tteries-range/

Jonathan Elfalan, vehicle testing director for the automotive website Edmunds.com, reached a similar conclusion to Pannone after an extensive examination of vehicles from Tesla and other major automakers, including Ford, General Motors, Hyundai and Porsche.

All five Tesla models tested by Edmunds failed to achieve their advertised range, the website reported in February 2021. All but one of 10 other models from other manufacturers exceeded their advertised range.

Tesla complained to Edmunds that the test failed to account for the safety buffer programmed into Tesla’s in-dash range meters. So Edmunds did further testing, this time running the vehicles, as Tesla requested, past the point where their range meters indicated the batteries had run out.

Only two of six Teslas tested matched their advertised range, Edmunds reported in March 2021. The tests found no fixed safety buffer.

Edmunds has continued to test electric vehicles, using its own standard method, to see if they meet their advertised range estimates. As of July, no Tesla vehicle had, Elfalan said.

“They've gotten really good at exploiting the rule book and maximizing certain points to work in their favor involving EPA tests,” Elfalan told Reuters. The practice can “misrepresent what their customers will experience with their vehicles.”

I've never gotten close to the EPA data in any ICE car I have driven. I just learn my car and the range and just live life. I had already read about the Model S Plaid and had a good idea of real world range. And it is right where I expected it to be.

With ICE you get told (at least in the UK) about worst possible range and best possible range and average range and that tends to be accurate. This doesn't seem to be the case with Tesla. Other EV also seem not a lot better but employing teams to bump people with genuine queries or who may have been misinformed seems unethical. There should be more conversations about what range you'll get at 80mph in the motorway that's when ice is at its best and ev is at its worst. I don't think many people know these.

Interesting article no matter which side of the EV debate you're on. Numbers are optimistic.

A key test for EV sales and the adoption curve is coming
Brian Downey, executive editor of Autotrader, a division of auto-data company Cox Automotive. EV inventories were 92,000 as of June 26, up 350% from mid-2022, as models from automakers newer to the EV market like Kia, Porsche, Jaguar and Hyundai saw sales fall short of expectations and sales of Ford’s Mustang Mach E dropped.
There is a core EV issue in the numbers: GM sold about 36,000 electric vehicles in the first half of 2023, according to Cox Automotive. With production set to zoom higher, the new models had better sell.
https://www.cnbc.com/2023/07/30/a-ke...is-coming.html

I've always considered Government Motors CEO Mary Barra a diversity hire but I doubt she can survive what is coming.
