I guess it is perfectly fair to ask that.
I've met a female forum members before on hobby forums. My wife is perfectly fine with it. Sometimes she tags along (or kid and I after school) to whatever the hobby forum is as well. It is like car meet.

Since I am an industrial partner/vendor on some forums, I meet lots of people for local deals. I actually met a guy near where I live at to deliver a stuff.
