Update from Minneapolis: it was somewhat of a freak-out forecast then an underperforming blizzard. Initial forecast called for 20 to 30 inches and my area got about 10 to 12 inches from Tues evening through today. Decent amount of snow but certainly didn't justify closing the kiddos school for 2 days. Oh well. Bring on spring!!

Portland, Oregon -- an hour North of us -- got a surprise 10 inches and basically turned into an enormous parking lot. Some people spent the night in their cars stuck on the side of the road. We got about 4 inches -- dodged the bullet. But now we get two nights below 20F, so the whole world is a gigantic ice rink.
In addition, one of my llamas -- an elderly female -- is very skinny and I've been pushing grain pellet calories into her to keep her alive. I fear she may not survive these two cold nights...

Yesterday and today we've had wind, rain, hail, snow (on the beach!), lightning, and thunder. (I now, lightning/thunder, ho hum. But very unusual for us to be woken at 2AM by a flash and house-rattling boom.) Since late last night it's been snowing hard in the mountains between us and San Jose; likely at least a foot up there near the top (2200'). The main road (Hwy 17) is closed w/no opening ETA. Another 30 year weather event. That makes two this winter.

Wintry mix last night, but upper 40s today. Upper 50s tomorrow. Mostly 50s and 60s in the 10-day outlook. Totally bizarre for this time of year. Good riding weather now, but I fear it's going to be a very hot summer.

Snow!
It snowed on the hills just east of town last night. Very rare for these parts. We're about 10 miles from the Pacific coast.

We're having an early transition from winter to spring here. Daffodils, Hellebores, Snowdrops, etc. are up and it looks like it's mid-March.
After living for twenty years in Southern New Hampshire, we're reminded that we moved down here to experience winter ending six weeks earlier.

Snow yesterday. It’s melting away now. Kept a lot of people indoors so it was nice going out and not seeing a bunch of traffic!

Had a DTC on, kind of drive home. The low fuel warning light came on at 1/4 tank.
Multiple transport trucks stuck blocking multiple roads trying to go uphill. Back roads are fun in a snowstorm when you get to play guess if it's a lane or shoulder. |
