I thought that the G42 might achieve some weight reduction given that the G20 did so relative to its predecessor, the dimensionally smaller F30, with both series transitioning to CLAR from, I believe, the same previous platform.

Gents,
The F87 M2C is a 3600 pound tank . . . if you accept it for what it is, adds up to a great daily enthusiastic driving experience. I fully anticipate the G87 will weigh in at around the same 3600 pound heifer point. . . and will offer similar enjoyment toward daily enthusiastic driving. ///AVM |

The 3 series has grown to the point where I feel the G20 is probably the last 3'er I'll own. I thought the current 2'er was a tad too small so hoping the G87 dimensions come in around the size of the E92 which would be perfect |

maybe once they decided to keep the 2 series rather than nix it, the only way was to leverage a shared platform, the clar, otherwise it wasnt going to be worth it to keep the 2 series. but in doing so they knew i think, the 2 series replacement g42 was not going to any longer have a mere evolutionary size bump, but a sizeable increase. it looks to be so in the spy shots the past couple of months. |

I think G42 will be similar to G29 with roof, back seat & bigger trunk.

i see that you're right. in which case, with the photos seen so far, the rear seat leg room of the g42 better of grown by six inches.

Even with CLAR the car can still grow in size and weight. Remember when BMW touted the G20 as being lighter by 150lbs compared to the F30, when in reality they were referring to the platform and not the actual car's total curb weight.
Given BMW's history, I would be absolutely shocked, if this did not grow at all in any shape, weight, size, form, etc. |

I like that the profile is returning more to the E8X generation 1-series more boxy and classic BMW. Just wish they keep the size and weight down

Nothing unexpected with the 'big' G80/82 release today . . . hideous and heavy as shit (RWD 3900 lbs).
G87 just keeps sounding better and better . . . and I have plenty of F87 time to wait. ///AVM |

I now worry that the G87 will follow the G80 and also weigh more... hopefully the opposite will happen.

With the G80/82 series...
The new double claws style digital instrument cluster is Give me back that classic BMW cluster or give me a true racing style cluster dominated by a tachometer, a speedo with EGT, water temp and oil temp readings on the side I am quite disappointed with the amount of weight gain but guess there isn't much Markus Flasch's team can do as they are constrained by the inherent footprint of the G20/22 chassis I am resting my hope on the G87 M2 |

It looks good in the side profile pics. I don't dislike the looks of the new G80/82 M cars like most of you seem to, but this new 2 series looks better in camouflage than those cars did. Hopefully this bodes well for how it will actually look.
I'm not sure how I feel about the lights from those leaked pics. I got a feeling the G87 M2 will look really good. |

Me too . . . I think the G87 M2C will be great, but we MIGHT not like the instrument cluster??? Getting back to those seats . . . I saw a new 21' M235i that just arrived to local BMW dealership and the seats (bottom pic) were very similar to those in the new M3/4 (top pic). This reassures me the G87 M2C will include something very nice, if not identical to the G80/82 seats. ///AVM |
