Here's a pair of whiskys (whiskies?) that I have been savouring over the last few weeks. The Welsh Penderyn is comparable to a mellow Irish with a rather sweet finish, I like it. The Redbreast is ...well Redbreast, you won't be dissapointed.

How does the Lustau compare to the 12 year? Been thinking about picking up a bottle of that.

From what I understand the Lustau IS the 12YO with an extra few months aging in ex-sherry barrels. The sherry influence is definitely there, a little on the nose, mostly on the finish. I'm no whiskey expert, but I do know that it is very nice. Just do it, you know you want to.

Good spread there, am interested in your notes/comparisons between some of them.

Picked up a bottle of 1792 over the weekend. I was a fan, but it's a little sweet. Initial glass I had on the rocks because I just got in from some chores, rest were neat. Cooper was intrigued by the bottle, but most likely thought I was going to give him some haha.

The regular small batch is my least favorite offering of theirs, by a long shot. If you can find a Full Proof or BiB, those are much better. The only ones I have not had are the 12 year and single barrel but the 12 year is about impossible to find it seems.

I was going to try their Full Proof, they had it on the shelf, but since I hadn't tried that brand before I went with the cheaper bottle. Next time I'm in there Ill try it out, appreciate the recommendation!

Thanks! The 2 Four Roses and the Eagle Rare are my favorites of the bunch. Haven’t opened the Blanton’s yet. Elijah Craig and Woodford are close behind. All 5 have similar fruit notes and are full bodied with nice bitey finishes. Eagle Rare is impossibly smooth.

Pass on Jefferson’s - too much spice
Pass on True Blue - too much maple syrup and chocolate
JD SB BP can almost be lit on fire but is extremely complex - chocolate, tobacco, vanilla, light fruits
Dalmore is a middle of the road, very smooth scotch, not enough bite for my taste

Not pictured is the Old Ezra 7 I picked up which is a solid, spicy barrel strength whiskey with hints of vanilla and the other handful of bottles I killed a few months back.

I agree on the Jeffersons and the Old Ezra. I have just not found a Jeffersons that I actually enjoy and all of the OE7 I have had are pretty solid.

If you can find a JD SB Store Pick, those are usually another step above the non store pick versions.

The ER, EC, FR and WR are all pretty similar in my opinion. Nothing super stand out and just good everyday pours.

One of my favorite budget pours right now is actually Early Times BiB.

Based on what you like I think you would enjoy Makers Marks Cask Strength, Stagg Jr, Wild Turkey Rare Breed and just about any of the Elijah Craig Barrel Proof offerings (if you can find C919 that one is standout but they are all good).

haven’t been able to find any good limes but have been craving margaritas. lava brand mix is the best I’ve found so far. adding an ounce of Cointreau makes it great!

My boss introduced me to Midleton Very Rare when we were on a business trip in London many years ago. I loved it then and bought a few bottles over the years but haven't had any in 5 years. We were at the local liquor store getting limoncello and I spied this out of the corner of my eye. Coolio! Snatched it up and brought it home. Not the box or bottle I remember so it will be interesting to see how it tastes. I don't like scotch too much but I love me some Irish whiskey.

They also had a bottle of Readbreast 21 which I have heard is good as well, but have never tried it. The Midleton VR is spendy @ $220, but the Redbreast is $349. Might give it a go if it is tasty. Anyone had the Redbreast 21?

it's amazing...so incredibly rich and smooth. had a buddy who held a tasting at his house last year with a number of bottles retailing in the $150 - $400 range. the RB21 and whistlepig boss hog IV were the hits of the tasting.

I have a bottle of RB21, I’ve been saving it for a special occasion and should be opening it sometime within next few months I hope.
I love all of their other offerings so I’m sure it’s great.

It’s very good, I’d place it right behind their 12 Year Cask Strength.
