A 200" , 5400 lb car is nowhere close to "ultimate driving machines" even with M5 badge and CF all over the exterior/interior

Hmm.
Impressive and bravo to BMW for continuing to make the M5 in the current world but....... it really is just too big, too heavy and the over styling is not great. The IOM Green car rear valence shot, oh dear. Bring on the new designs asap please.

Everyone whining about this car is just so on brand. No one has even driven it. Most can’t afford it. It’s just comical.

Welcome to car forums, where everyone has an opinion—predominantly negative and often without any experience—and feels everyone else is dying to hear it!

No they didn’t. van Hooydonk is still the head of the design department, Ducek was promoted to Rolls Rouce and they brought on one new designer.

On the waiting list for the G99. I had a ‘24 XM, the design of which I hated for a long time, it actually did grow on me. I will say that I had more people come up asking about the XM, telling me that it was awesome than I ever had coming up about my Taycan. TLDR; this will sell well, people will like it, and it will perform as expected of an M5.

That rear diffuser looks like a support bra.
I will withhold further judgement till I see it in person but thus far, despite wanting to like it, I simply do not. The AUDI RS6 does a better job pulling off the wagon transition as it relates to styling. |

I don't like the new 5 design for many reasons but others do. Taste is subjective.
I test drove the XM when it first came out at one of those M Town events at a dealer close to us and told the BMW Reps that I didn't know who their target market was, but that a near 6,000 pound car was not an M car regardless of its label. Having said that, after the resounding (not) success of the XM and all the BMW cost cutting, they had a powertrain that they needed to amortize so they used it for the M5. I would have preferred some improvements to the last powertrain and a savings of about 1,000 pounds. BMW also said they will decide whether to bring future Touring models based on the sales of the M5 Touring. I fear that they will condemn all future Tourings due to the overweight M5 design. They should have brought an M3 or an M340i Touring instead if they were serious about the Touring option. To those who intend to order an M5, enjoy your cars, and please buy the Touring version so we can get them in something lighter in weight! |

I was at a BMW CCA event in NJ about 3 weeks ago and they had the IOMG sedan and Touring on display. The cars were open and we had free access to get in and check out the interiors. As someone who owns a G80 and F15 35d, I haven’t been able to get trading them both in for the Touring out of my mind! Right now the only thing keeping me from pulling that trigger (other than getting the sweats from buying a $130k car) is the lack of a tan interior option in the M5. Hopefully that will change.
Yes, these are big cars. No, the Touring won’t fit in my garage. However, the Touring’s load floor appears to be significantly longer than the X5’s, and the interior is really roomy. I also like the idea of driving around town without using gas. This would be my long trip car - so I’m wondering what the real-life highway mileage will be. (I know - M car owners shouldn’t worry about economy, but I have a bit of a green streak in me.) I’m getting older, maybe its time for a grownup car like this.

This behemoth weighs almost 2,300lbs more at 5,390lbs. That's a Mazda Miata weight added! G90's power to weight ratio (7.24lbs/hp) is also less than the F90 M5c's 7.04 lbs/hp and you need to steer and stop an additional heft of 1,045 pounds. Quad exhausts on a freight train.

It’s the weight makes car lazy which is not supposed to be in DNA of Mcar. Power to weight can be fixed easily by tuning and Im sure in next 1-2 years we will see 1000 HP G90 can complete 1/4 mile in 10’s but that’s it. What’s the goal? To beat Tesla S Plaid in straight line? 😂 Dont get me wrong G90 might be a nice highway cruiser or a BMW luxury sedan competing with Mercedes and Porsche. I dont have any issue if it had M550 or M560 or M570 , etc badge. The issue is that it has real M badge so we expect M performance. I think F90 M5 is the last real M5. At least it has gear lever lol

Yeah it must be a bit of a head scratcher thinking about dropping $149k on it.

Agree. I think they really missed the mark with the lack of aggressiveness of the Tourning. It looks like a regular station wagon from the Fords and Toyotas. The RS6 certainly looks the part. Damn, even the G81 M3 looks way better and aggressive compared to this M5 Touring. You can love or hate the M3 front grill but the wagon design is spot on. Hoping they would bring it stateside. So hope more people can buy this M5 Touring so BMW might be comfortable bringing the others
