The B&O of today is not what it was back in the F10 days. I think the quality has gone down a lot since then. I have it in my Audi S8, top of the line B&O with the motorized tweeters. It's not anything special. B&O is actually owned by Harmon, along with Mark Levinson. My friend does not work on the B&O side, however. He only works on the Mark Levinson for the LS500. Even the Mark Levinson that goes in other Lexus models is not as good as the LS500 system.

My B&O does not even have an EQ. Just treble, mid, bass, and sub tone controls. It's a joke for how much they charge for it, $6900 I think.

Having more KWs does not mean that you have better overall sound system. I think the most impressive feature of the old diamond B&W system in F90, is not the sound quality but after 6 years of use, it does not cause any vibrations or unwanted noise! Impressive.

Is there any statement from BMW regarding the sound system, or is this the best that will be offered down the line also?
So i think a higher end system is forthcoming. I'm betting there is a production issue as a Diamond system is noted as being eventually available in China, in addition to the LB and massive rear screen. If it fits into the Chinese 5, I'm certain it will in the rest.

Another comfort feature adopted directly from the luxury sedans of the BMW 7 Series is the BMW Theatre Screen: with its 31.3-inch panoramic display, 8K resolution and 5G connectivity, it enables a high-quality video streaming experience during travel. In combination with the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System, the BMW Theatre Screen transforms the rear of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan and the new BMW i5 into a private cinema on wheels.

All they have to do is make the diamond system available, full leather available and maybe put soft close doors on it and it'll be golden. Feels a bit bare bones at the moment for a 140k luxury super saloon

Note - the B&W systems in the i5 and the regular 5 series (ICE/PHEV) are not identical. The latter has a subwoofer under both front seats for a total of 18 speakers, whereas the former doesn’t have room because of the battery, so has a single subwoofer (17 total speakers).

As a consolation (albeit a small one), the G90 will have the 18 speakers with the 2nd subwoofer. Also, saw a review of the i5 B&W system, which still received pretty good marks.

Certainly I wish there was the option for a diamond system, but I’m glad at least the G90 will have the 2nd subwoofer.

Indeed, as I have posted before. I have the i5 B&W system. The bass is actually not bad, and overall the system is pretty good, but still no where near the quality of the B&O in the F10 M5.

I have no complaints for the B&W in the i5 or the G90 M5 really. It’s nice that it comes standard on the i5 M60 and the G90 M5, making you feel like, “well at least I didn’t have to pay extra for it,” even though in reality, it’s baked into the base price of the cars.

As far as the Chinese market goes, that’s a whole other thing. We can’t count on BMW offering what the Chinese get, to other markets, it rarely happens, if ever.

Pretty disappointing.. as an audiophile it's annoying to know that i'll be receiving my car with a base system KNOWING that there WILL be a better option soon..
but in the end .. typical first MY problems..

The only issue is they aren’t going to make any of these available.

This is why the M5 is a hard pass for me.

Are you certain of that? I see priority 1 "merino" options coming in March, but they have no extra cost over extended and aren't labeled as "full" on the pricing or ordering guides. My dealer also pushed back on full leather coming, but we know how dealers don't always have the best information.
