Got my Fanatec today and after doing a very fast setup using just the defaults it is literally a night & day difference between it and my old Logitech Driving Force GT.

It literally went from feeling like I was playing a game to feeling like I was driving an actual car

Heck yeah! If I wasn't using my stim check for my honeymoon, it would definitely be going towards a new setup.

Yep, but when NASA, SCCA, BMW CCA, etc have all shut down their events, virtual reality beats the hell out of nothing

Except, I can walk out to the driveway and get in it and take it for a spin....anytime I like. I actually understand the notion of driving games and first person shooters etc.....I've tried them and have found that I'd rather do the real thing....I like to drive my car, go to the range and have sex with an actual woman....call me old fashioned.

I prefer both... but one has a higher cost of entry as a hobby. Nothing beats the real thing but one track day is about the cost of sim racing for a year. Plus taking a Spin on the street and track are very different

Rig Hardware:
Human Racing GT full motion rig chassis (no motion, yet..a cool $10k more) full fiberglass shell with aluminum core to translate vibes and forces better throughout.
Sparco R888 Reclining Race Seat
Fanatec Clubsport V2.5 wheel base w/ BMW GT2 replica rim, and Formula Rim.
Fanatec Clubsport V2 Pedals
Fanatec Clubsport SQ Shifter, does Sequential and MT mode(s)

I get ya, back taking it out for a spin and taking it to the track are completely different beasts. But then so it taking the real thing out to the track versus pretend driving on the track.

Personally I don't do any sim racing, I just enjoy using it to supplement the real thing

Specs/model #? How much more/less noisy is compared to the LT? How is the road feel with the Fanatic?

I had the DFGT and yes it was loud and inexpensive; also lacked true road feel.

I got the CSL Elite PS4 Starter Kit.

In actual use, I honestly couldn't tell you how much of a noise difference there is, as that was never something I focused on. What I can say there is a huge difference in noise is when you turn it on it does the whole wheel rotation thing. The LT made a racket, while I don't really even notice the Fanatec.

I probably don't even have 50 laps on the Fanatec yet, so I am still tweaking settings, but there is no comparison on the road feel between the two. Simple things like the curbing feels pretty much like real curbing, where with the LG was kind of a jolt.

The other big difference is the pedals. On the LG they are just something you step on to get something to happen. There is actual feel with the Fanatec and that's just with the basic set. I just received my load cell kit today, so I'll have to get used to the more progressive feel of the brakes as well as figure out the setup I like.

I'm not at all serious about this sim racing stuff. I first got Gran Turismo and the DFGT to have something worth playing on my PS3. I recently saw that someone had created an Assetto Corsa version of my favorite local track and wanted a better setup.

I originally looked at the newer Logitech and Thrustmaster offerings, but what I saw in the comparisons to the Fanatec made it an easy call for me, even with not being anything close to a hardcore user.

If you are good with the cost, I would highly recommend the Fanatec.

Yes the good wheels cost a fair amount money. I remember the DFGT was loud at startup! That wheel had a problem with long races and maintaining FFB. Drifting feedback felt artificial. For the money it was worth it.

I have a mid tier LT with the three pedal kit. Its ok for what it is, a step up from the DFGT. The ThrustM seemed to have random issues; too many complaints to cost ratio. Fanatec has always read good. Can't even go carting now a days with SAH orders. Need to get back on GT.

They are sold out the Fanatec website. where'd you get you setup from? TIA

From Fanatec, I ordered mine at the beginning of the month. the load cell kit was backordered at the time, so I had to wait a couple of weeks longer for it to come.

here's mine.
As an experienced and quick simracer myself, i've decided to start a channel where i will be bringing lots of help guides and race reports and showcasing the best that simracing has to offer. Do subscribe and feel free to ask me any questions about how to get the best from your setup, or how to get up to speed quickly in Assetto Corsa, iRacing or Raceroom.
cheers

I went the "cheaper" route with a PS4 Pro and Gran Turismo Sport. I've been playing GT for years and just love it.

So with that in mind I wanted to update my hardware as well.
I have the folowing setup:
Thrustmaster T-GT - wheel and pedals (will upgrade to the loadcell pedals when they are available).
RSeat S1 Cockpit - I have a wide variety of drivers in the family and the sturdiness of this cockpit is perfect. Not to mention how easy it is to adjust. Both seat and pedals move back and forth.
Cart - I have a surround sound system on a shelf located in the middle of the wall. I bought a 10ft. HDMI cable and can move the cart right next to my sim rig when I'm playing. It holds everything and works great! I just modified it to fit the PS4 (middle) and the surge protector (bottom).
When I'm not driving and we're playing other games, I simply roll the sim rig right out of the way (I installed wheels where the feet were supposed to be mounted - it works great). Likewise, I can roll the cart to the side so it's out of the way too.

In the end, I have a total of about $2K invested. I knew if I went with a full blown PC sim rig for iRacing I'd be in it for a lot more. I can always upgrade as the cockpit will work with any wheel/pedal combination.

Glad to be back into it! My eight year old daughter loves it too. For GT, you can set the assist for braking and steering on so she won't crash after 100 feet. She likes to win

I was so upset with the flimsy build of consumer options I built this rig with a friend, featuring bmw seat, zero rig movement during play, and engineered to match the seating geometry from my old e46 m3

Budget racing sim

I say budget but I think its a great combo, anyway I just do casual race sim.
I went with:
PS4 and Windows (thinking of iracing)
Next Level Racing F-GT Cockpit - Very solid!
G29 Logitech - not the best but works perfect (has manual shifter not in picture)
ButtKicker 2 - nice
65" Curved Samsung 4k - maybe too big, I like it and its immersive.
TV cart floor stand from Amazon - perfect fit with the next level.

Dang, you guys have some serious setups. I used to sell simulators to the department of defense for all aircraft. We had what we called desktop setups that we could load the full environment on a desktop PC and then have a virtual cockpit (touchscreens) with 3 screens for the outside view. Looks a lot like some of your rigs. Pretty cool. The full blown 360 deg setup with motion was better but @ $15M a pop, they were pricey. You could get 80% of the utility with the $200k desktop rig. Most of that cost was the software and we used COTS hardware like you guys are using. Amazing how the two worlds have converged at the consumer level.
