Yes based on whispers this is basically their plan. Still think they did it backwards not going with the 3 touring firet especially because from a design language it looks better. But fingers crossed sales numbers do what they’re estimating with the 5 so us Muricans have a chance.

I just went by what BMW loaded up to show by default so, especially on the finance side, it likely isn’t a true picture of how the transaction goes down in reality. However it is telling that apples to apples money down, it is clear BMW has the depreciation on the M5 projected to be steep and it shows on the lease numbers.

I just ordered a 540ix and right now it is probably cheaper to lease and see where interest rates are in 3 years to determine if it is advantageous to buy the vehicle. I haven’t made that decision yet. However, it clearly shows that BMW doesn’t see the depreciation on a 540ix being quite as steep.

Leasing these type of cars is always the way to go for me. The Bank takes the downside if they depreciate hard or get a Car Fax ding but you can still take the upside if the market is solid. I turned in my last 4 M leases 1-2 years early and grabbed $5 - $14k in equity. Now look at the market say for the XM or any of the EVs and buyers taking huge hits on resale.

I would predict 50% in 3y unless BMW provides free maint and wrnty for 10y. the design of h/w and drivetrain is stop gap and this will be a throw-away vehicle in 10y unless, again, BMW provides maint and wrnty. E30 325 with 200k mi will have higher value in 10y.

Historically depreciation hits all the V8s(M5/M6/M8) decently, it's often worth it to even get a 6mo-1yr old car with less than 10k miles on it. This whole story of "oh we only get 1-2 allocations every so often" is a relatively new thing with BMW..my guess is that BMW is purposely keeping production low in order to maximize value.

Were your last 4 Ms either an M3 or an M4? Every single M3 I've owned had EXCELLENT resale values.

2 X3M, a 22 M3 and hard to believe a 24 X5M as well just recently. Right before that I got a few thousand out of an early turn in on a Stelvio Quad because I turned it in right at the peak of the used car insanity.

Raised speed limiter (which is worthless for 99.999% of folks), and a voucher for one person to do a day of race training with M instructors

I never leased before but is it just me or is that number insane? Over 36 months you would have paid $111,600 at 3100/month. Unless the buy out for the car is like $15,000 at the end that seems like a bad deal. 😮

This isn’t going to be a $3100 month lease, be serious.

It’s going to probably be what the X5M and X6M lease is now….low 2000s with no discount. Residuals will be lower 50s, definitely not 50.

You are absolutely right.
M5/M6/M8 have big depreciation.
M3/M4 always have decent equity and that’s why they sell very well. So dont be surprise if people get new M3/M4 every year 😂
Even with today’s monthly $1500–$1600 payment at the end of lease 30-40 percent of this money will be returned.
I had a 2018 M3 with monthly payment of $1000 . After 30 months when I traded in for M8 I got $9k so actual payment was $700 monthly ☺️
On my 2020 M8 however, at the end of lease market price was $10k less than residual so I had no choice but return the car while I really wanted to buy it off!

it's an extremely bad deal because BMW knows these won't hold their value.
