Nice review of a great family(..)car.
Reminds me of this lightblue M5 , the most 'famous' M5 in Dutch History Bought and maintained at 'my' dealership this M5 was near the German border driving pretty fast(er than normal) when a Dutch undercover policecar with video equipment spotted it... The M5 outran the Volvo easily(understatement) and at that time(about 15 years ago) 400BHP was really something(it still is more or less) In the chasing police car: 160kmh=100mph 200kmh=125mph 240kmh=149mph 15y old vid: The M5 escaped through the German border(we don't have actual borders in this part of EU) and they even weren't intercepted by collaborating German customs/police but were fined indirectly by licenceplate reg. numbers. The owner had to pay 7500,- Dutch Florins, which equals €3400,- but I can assure you, inflation being acounted for that meant '7k euros...' A pretty expensive moment of fame for this M5 The truck he is passing in this still vid (white light blue stripes , that company is from my hometown lol, first time I see that) Cheers Robin |

Can't let go...
Always think I'm going to sell mine each time I get a new car. I thought for sure after I got my M3 E93, but all it takes is a drive and I find myself saying I can wait another week or two. 15 years later still have and drive it once or twice a week. It's the epitome of what BMW meant by "the ultimate driving machine"

Some guy made it on the local news a year ago because lost what appeared to be a 2001 M5. Him and his wife weren't visibly upset. They must of had a file folder of maintenance and repairs.
Love old cars; the theme guessing would be to keep your M repair receipts here in Canada. |

Never drove an M5.
But have had a lot of seat time in a E39 528 and 530 and for comparison a 530 e60. It is a great handling car, and a great all around daily driver for the enthusiast. The M5 is probably the best all rounder for the serious performance enthusiast daily driver. |

Owned one for 6.5 years and sold last August to a good local friend. He dropped it off last weekend for me to watch/drive for a month while he's on vacation. Realllly miss this car! Buying it was one of the best decisions ever. I would love to still have it but it was time to move on (to an E90 M3 soon).
