Test drives start next week. But we won't see any reviews out for a few more weeks. If you have any questions or requests regarding the review of both cars, let me know. Will have a chance to push them in Germany. No track.

https://www.caranddriver.com/bmw/m5 Article says.. BMW says it will do 0-60 in 3.4 — we think it’ll be more like 3.0. Then they put 2.6 (estimated) in their little infographic summary at the end lol. Who knows! We should find out for real soon enough…

I'm going to extend this opportunity again: if you have some things you want me to test with the M5, please let me know. I'll drive both cars next week. The focus is more on the driving experience and it will be on public roads, not track.
Or if you have any questions for the engineering team, I will try to get them answered, aside from whatever it was answered already. |

I had the F10 and the F90 and neither of those was a track car. IMO, even the G80 M3 (also owned one) isn't a track car, they are all simply too heavy now with the required safety and comfort features that the market demands.
The M5 has always been about covering ground quickly and not some random track number. If you want a transcontinental ballistic missile the M5 is your machine. It is also the one of the best vehicles if you need a quiet car to take calls on the way to the office daily and then still have fun on a few backroads whenever the mood strikes. If you want a canyon car go buy an older 911, an E46 or a Civic Type R (yes I am serious about the Type R). Any of these will put most modern BMW's to shame for driver engagement and fun, but none of them would be a replacement as a daily/family machine. Last edited by Salespunk; 10-08-2024 at 01:24 PM.. |

Also, can you ask the engineering team if there is any meaningful weight difference with the different wheel options. I like the 952, but want to make sure they aren’t something crazy like 10 pounds per wheel heavier. Lastly, how will the break-in period for the engine work? I plan on using EV almost all the time. How will you know when the electric motor is broken in since it isn’t on mileage. Thanks! |

Always a tough one. I always have to find a good road, no traffic and no elevations. So I will try.

I would also like to hear feedback on the EV only mode. Is it enough for standard daily driving around town? Don't care about stoplight drag racing numbers, just can you comfortably get around with it. Finally, did they maintain materials quality or are there budget considerations where you feel them in the car? |

Definitely use a Dragy and if you can post online you’d probably get tens of thousands if not more views if you have a YouTube channel. If not I think we’d all be glad to take the numbers on the forum. Def scout out a road that’s relatively flat and isolated. Even if it’s not perfectly flat and slopes — it’d still be nice to get some rough numbers!

What’s the channel? Also was that with launch control and was it with a Dragy or similar? I have vague recollections of someone doing a 0-60 but either timing it with phone or the car’s built in timer or something that’s not as accurate as a separate timing device.

No device. I used to use an iPhone app for that, but might have to look for an actual noise device. Need to find one |

Please focus on the traditional M car values, which is handling, driver feedback, balance of the dynamic dimensions (thrust, braking, cornering), where ou feel like braking is sufficient to deal with the acceleration, and handling is similarly not overwhelmed. Remember the early M3’s and their balance and driver engagement. Don’t bother with noting silly crap like the noise it produces, since turbo V8’s are muffled and it is supposed to be a 5 series anyway, not a ridiculous burping/farting thing like today’s smaller M cars.
How does the weight work out? With this much weight, real world roads can make the car heave around, possibly even pulling the car up and off the road with resulting decrease or loss of contact, reducing traction and steering ability. Does the car ever feel unplanted on rough, non-German imperfect roadways? The G60 5’s with basically the same body are noted to have pretty dead steering feel. Does the G90 have some/any? How much? What did you feel? The car is an automatic, right, not a DCT? Seemed like on those press drives around the (flat and level) track there was obvious lag on the paddle shifts compared to DCT. Is it laggy? |

Thanks for the offer!
I am very interested, having ordered one, to know a bit more about the new technology and how does it blend with the M dna. How does it drive while in hybrid, in full electric, is it realistically usable. What are the main settings to maxisimise the electric motor outside of the track, and is it always available or only in certain modes etc. Then of course, whats the ride like… And the sound! Thanks! |

I dont intend on driving the M60 like an ///M car so it’s all good. I still have my F10 M5 for that and my G20 only weighs 3,500lbs so I get my fill of spirited driving from those cars.
