There must be but not as common. Most fakes are done on the most popular brands and models. I once noticed a fake panerai on a salesman at a mercedes dealership. I knew right away he would be full of shit.

Most men check out the watches on other men. Its the nature of the beast. Watches and shoes are the most common things noticed/remembered after meeting someone for the first time.

Hmm....... I still proudly sport my Casio G-Shock. No interest in those high-priced watches at all, let alone replica.

I would wear a watch if I liked it. I couldn't care less about the logo or maker, or if it's real or replica.

Kev and Turbofan posts seem to be the only normal ones on this thread.

Other than that, what a bunch of snobs...

Makes me want to buy a Hyndai and a Timex

I have a $2500 watch, but it was a wedding gift from my wife. I love the style of the watch, and I've never seen another (too big for most people to wear). I couldn't care less what brand it is. I also rarely wear it. I normally "sport" a $200 seiko. Keeps great time, looks good.

200 seiko here also. Ive had it for 10 years and it still keeps perfect time. I bought mine to actually keep time, not look at it to remind me of how special I am in my new Bimmer.

Being a medical student and a future resident, I'll look ridiculously out of place if I wear any expensive personal jewelry, not to mention how dirty that expensive watch would become. Also, I never understood the appeal of an expensive watch anyways. However, I do own an Omega, which was a gift from my father when I got my Master's degree and I've never worn it.

My G-Shock with metal casing and strap looks just as good as any other watch plus it offers both analog and digital time.

I learned my lesson after cracking the face of my omega couple yrs. back...If I could find a good knock-off for cheap I would wear a replica for daily use and break out the real during 'events, meetings, etc.' but I haven't so I just wear a $20 G-SHOCK instead...

To me wearing a replica watch is like putting a "M" badge on a 328i. It still is not the real thing and everyone who knows anything will know it. You are putting on a fake and by default that makes you a fake in a way.

maybe so, if your establishing your identity via the watch you wear. But then, even if you have a real watch worth thousands of $$$$, I think you have bigger issues than real v fake. If it's really that big a deal to someone, that they're going to assume i'm fake because they think I have a fake watch....

My best time piece is worth over $2k, and when I do wear it, I've had a couple people say it's a great knock-off, a 30 year old "kid" couldn't afford the real thing. So who cares what someone else thinks.

Buy a watch because you like it and it fits your budget. Who cares what the name is or if it's "real" or not. If I could get an Omega or Cartier or TAG or Breitling or any other high end watch with or without the logo, I would choose without, becuase I don't want someone to include my watch in their assessment of me.

If you've put ///M parts on the 328, what's the problem? ///M is the tuning division of BMW, is it not? Putting an ///M3 badge would be a little much, but if you put ///M wheels on the car, who cares if the have the little logo sticker? Putting an M badge on a Suburban (don't laugh, I've seen it) is ridiculous.

Why do people buy fakes? For most people they would like the real thing but can't afford it. For some they want the look but don't want to pay top price for it. For the really sad people they want to impress everyone and this is the only way they can do it. What you might call Champagne taste with a beer budget.

I can understand why people do it but for me having an original is much better. My rolex is 20 years old and I bought it new. It's in great shape and it's now worth more than I paid for it. That's the quality you can't get with a fake.

Fake people wear fake watches and will always get found out. Work hard save up and buy the real thing and you'll cherish the ownership of a fine quality crafted time piece a lot more than any fake could do.

Alternatively buy the fake and tell everyone it's real, but remember, you're only kidding yourself and when your mates/girlfriend find out they will see you for what you are.

Oh and if I see someone wearing a fake I always have a little laugh to myself especially if they're acting up. Do you really want people laughing at you?

I agree with you in theory but you either care what others think or you don't. Which is it?

so who cares what someone else thinks about your watch

First, I certainly don't care what someone thinks about my watch.

Second, in the occasions that I do care what someone thinks of me, say professionally, I can assure you that if they are basing their judgement on my watch, I would then not care what they think of me. If someone is going to judge a person on their WIRSTWATCH, or any other label on my person, they are most likely a shallow insecure person, and I have very little use for people like that.
