When you go grocery shopping in the supermarket, and the music that is playing over the PA System just happens to be "your Song"... that is one way to confirm that we are all getting older.

Got to go custom. Hire a tailor. You'll look and feel like a million $$$, and will have spent about as much. That or never buy more than two items from the same store. Find yourself a good haberdashery besides your local mall.

Our local market only plays 50's and 60's stuff, so little chance of them ever playing "my song." I hate shopping there because of the music.

Worst I ever threw my back out happened while bending over to scratch my cat's ear. The pop was clearly audible. Hurt like hell for a week.

Advice from Henry Skinner (A Good Year):

Quote:
A blue suit is the most versatile of accoutrements. More important than the suit itself, is the man who fits it for you. Once you find a good tailor, you must never give his name away - not even under the threat of bodily harm.

Haha, a friend of mine recently said, "you know we're getting older whent the music we used to party to is now being played at the grocery store."

Since we're one the subject of suits and such...where to buy good ties? There's Gentleman's Gazette with $125 ties and then there's The Tie Bar with $20 ties. One seems very pricey and one seems too cheap. Better to go with easily replaced ties or are the pricey ones really worth it?

I recently discovered bow ties, and I'm too old to learn to tie them properly. The bolos were getting known so had to up my game

When I first wore the bow with this light purple shirt, I had to do my first selfie. There was strong Reverend Farrakhan in the image, and I'm of Irish and German decent.

The ties at ctshirts.com are good everydayers and they're super reasonable. I've never spilled anything on a cheap tie but my Charvet, Brioni, and Luciano Barbera ties may as well be napkins at this piont.

When you're chasing the dog around the yard, and two minutes later you feel like you're having a cardiac arrest.

Really? I'll only buy a tie if it's nice quality. I like the 7 fold silk ties such as Brioni or Kiton. Hermes is great too (much thinner than the Kiton ties) but some of the patterns are a bit strange. My other favorite is Ralph Lauren Purple Label.
I would say skip the cheap ones and invest in some good ties.

As long as you only feel like you're having a cardiac arrest, you're ok.

Back to square one. This sounds like a good poll thread in the making. Hmm...

Done. Vote here.

LOL, another sign of getting old. I just went to grab a few of my ties so that I can see the designer and realized I had to move a few suits out of the way first. I was already exhausted after moving the first suit. So I gave up.

I just stand and watch the dog run like a spaz all over the yard these days. When she gets tired we wander back into the bedroom and lay down.

You know you are old when you watch the sports coverage on the news, and when they interview all these multi-zillionaire pro athletes, you realize that for most of them, you are old enough to be their dad.

I recall when I was a kid, and they were all "grown-ups" to me, and now they are all very young to me, and, somehow, I dont recall a time when I was aware of being the same age as them... it's like I skipped over that, not sure WTF happened there.

I'm surrounded by 19-20-somethingish women all day and they always smile nicely at me in the hallways. I know *exactly* what they're thinking.
