I can't help but compare it to Cayman when it comes to weight. We are talking 500+ lbs!? I know it's a bigger car but damn that's a significant weight delta!! Cayman GT4 could be a handling monster if P allows it.

You are comparing a car with 650+hp supercharged V8 to a mid engine car with a small flat 6 that barely makes 300hp. And that is just not fair.

For a modern street car with that much power, it is about as light as it can be without running a barebone interior like Lotus.

And I doubt Porsche is gonna make the GT4 nearly as powerful as GT3, for the sake of 991 sales.

I am no American muscle car fanboy by any stretch but with the current base Stingray and now the Z06, it would be very hard for someone who wants a sports car to pass up Chevy's corvette (unless you need a back seat, don't like the way it looks, or just don't prefer the Chevy nameplate).

One weighs more than my wife's X3 and the other is an atom bomb of a sports car for $100K.

Based on the reveiws so far, it seems Chevy REALLY spent time developing the chassis. All reveiws have pointed out how confidence inspiring the chassis is and how when it's pushed to the limits, it's still easy to catch and not scary at all. Confidence = fast on any race track.

Which is why I specifically stated at the strip. I may be bench racing here, but from what I've researched, both hit 60 mph under 3 seconds and low 11's in the 1/4 mile.

Hellcat is grossly heavier but also has roughly 57 more horses to help. Aside from all that, just hearing those two go at it would be an eargasm!

In this case, whoever has more grip off the line would probably win. My bet is on the Corvette, which has wider gripper tires and better weight distribution.

tires - 275/20 P-zeros in the back

Z06:

weight - 3,533 (manual)
tires - 335/25 sport cups in the back
1/4 mile - 11.3 @ 126 mph

Even with the huge 1,027 lbs weight advantage the Z06 has, the hellcat can take the Z06 at the strip. Of course, it's a totally different story when it's time to turn.

I have doubts that would happen in the real world. Thousand pound weight advantage, 50 more HP through significantly skinnier tires...? I guess I'd say the Vette would be more consistent.

I have to agree with you. On paper it just doesn't make sense. Can't wait to see real world test against each other.

Keep in mind these numbers are based on manuals, I know both offer 'autos' with LC, so that can get interesting too.

No one will care to compare them, and anyone who does should just get the Dodge. One is a 4500 lb. cruiser with a lot of power, the other is a sports car faster than anything this side of a 918/P1/LaFerrari.

It does make sense when you remember the reviews have been primarily of the Z07 package car which has the most 'Aero' by far. This markedly enhances downforce/drag as the speeds increase and ultimately slows the Z07 package version down greatly at the top end versus the base Z06 which has the same Aero package as a Z51 Stingray. Hence the Z06 with the Z07 option will beat the heavier but more powerful Hellcat from a dig, but as the aerodynamic forces start to push it into the track surface, the extra power and decreased drag etc of the Hellcat will allow it to trump the Z07 in top speed.

Now take them to a road course and its a totally different story.

Downforce slows the Z06 at higher speed. Z06 is a track car, not drag car.

No one has or would if they know anything about the car. The point is that the version that has 'numbers' quoted is the road course version, (the Z07 package). The base Z06 with Stage 1 Aero would I'd bet beat the Hellcat in the 1/4 mile.

The Z06 will be as fast as the Viper TA or the upcoming GT3RS on a track. I am a track junky I guess, but at certain point I have to ask myself whether I would feel comfortable with all that speed?
The fact is, I have difficulties getting the most out of the 997.2 GT3RS on track. I cannot do laptimes within 0.5S of consistency over 10 laps. Getting faster is not necessarily means more fun. Actually, now that I think of it, the M3 and the MX-5 just as much fun (or more) than the GT3RS. I think I would be frightened by the Z06. I doubt I can easily exploit the limits of any car similarly fast.
On one of my last track days I was passing a couple of Gen IV ACR Vipers and one of the driver came up to me after our session and said it must be fun this car around the track. I had to tell him sometimes I am f.king terrified and feels like hard work and concentration.
Anyway, kudos to GM, the new Z06 seems like a very nice car.
(might pick up a convertible to avoid temptation to track it!)
