Everywhere I go I get approached by prostitutes or people soliciting prostitutes. I hear a lot of "massage massage!! Sex Sex. Sexy massage. sexy lady" Also one time I was approached more subtly. I was standing in front of Starbucks. And one pretty normal looking girl asked me to take a picture of her and her friend with her phone. So I did and she asked me bunch of questions in broken English... asked me where I was from what I was doing in Shanghai... then asked me if I wanted to come with them.

Never actually been to China, but it's pretty much the same deal in Taiwan... Go down to the drugstore and buy a packet of portable tissues; lots of lower-end places don't actually provide paper (I'm sure you'll discover quite quickly that Chinese culture isn't exactly considerate), some places actually have vending machines or sometimes you luck out with people on the street advertising their real estate with a property printed on the package, but at least when I was a kid those packages were less than $0.35 US ($10 TWD).

I HATED those squat toilets, but thankfully minus elementary school, the places I frequented in Taiwan had a Western style toilet... But when I moved there at 7 years old, my mom never bothered to tell me about them, but I used to clean the floor with tissue if needed, put tissue all around the edges and sit on the floor for a year before I accidentally walked in on another kid using it ... Then another year later I discovered that they don't lock the staff restroom, which had the thrones

Under statement of the year! Actually if they think they'll make money off you they are quite understanding the minute they find out you are shopping for other facilities they won't give you the time of day. Trust me... Even most Taiwanese people, which aren't too distant a descendant of China, are thoroughly disgusted with how things are run in China; doing business there is like a game of chess where you have to REALLY be borderline tactical to not get screwed over since their laws are very loosely enforced (e.g. minor infractions can be bribed, or copyright infringement is only prosecuted if it is 100% alike)...

But what I was more or less referring to is life in general... Like traffic laws are very lax and loosely enforced, so us haoles won't last a day if you don't know how to deal with either reckless or so-overly-cautious-that-it-causes-accidents-or-traffic drivers. If it means a quick buck, they'll do anything; such as oil "refined" through sewage waste and being dunked on your food, which come to think of it, I guess is why OP had diarrhea... Or even as simple as asking the person next to you to put aside their damn cheap POS cigarettes (which the blades are often coated in grease and uses cheap glue to hold the paper together so it smells more like burnt plastic / chemical shitstorm than tobacco) for one fucking minute since you're getting nauseous is grounds for an argument, when in other countries they will gladly oblige (true story)... Plus other examples.

number one thing I hated about being over seas. My stomach didn't get messed up that bad at all but I was shooting liquid for months. I hadn't even eaten out yet, I think it was their water.

Oh I hear you. Honest to God true story, the factory they used for making our knock off POS shoes the owner strikes an agreement with the factory owner. He has to give his creepy kid a job so that his college tuition stateside will not be completely non-resident. The kid comes into office daily, I'm an IT manager, and surfs porn the whole time, I'm getting alerts by the dozens about trying to access stuff not allowed by router and firewall rules. My boss the owner has me make him a special account so he can surf porn in his closet/office doing who knows what because he's afraid the SOB in China will not manufacture if the kids not happy. He claims that was a contractual agreement with the guy in China. Who the hell bakes into a business agreement let my kid surf porn and whack off in your office.

LMAO that's rough... But on the other hand, if we had him working as an alpha tester, I'd probably still work at the software company I did, and I wouldn't have to walk out of my office with a major stiffy (I used to be a QA for an employee monitoring software developer... COOLEST. JOB. EVER.)... But just the fact that he's just pretending to work there and jerking off but not contributing is aggravating to me. But...
