The moon also stabilizes the tilt of the earth which maintains climate constants that make life prosper. Conversely Mars tilts wildly due to small moons that cannot stabilize the planet, and over increments of 100,000 years the climate varies so much life can't take hold - in theory.

I really like this news! It's pretty cool stuff. That buzzfeed link puts things into perspective. It's crazy how far Pluto is from Earth.

I realize that it does other things. I was just offering an example of one effect it has. The point I was making is that effect =/= purpose. Purpose implies intent which is not valid.

Very cool, thanks for sharing. I would love to get my hands on the RAW file or whatever the cameras on the spacecraft create.

Pluto mission is so amazing. How they pull off something like this astounds me. This pic made me laugh today.

It's interesting, cool even, to see what Pluto looks like, although from the pics you posted, it looks about the same, or maybe little less, interesting than the Moon.

I don't think it's the greatest day in/of anything other than perhaps the "Pluto fans'" day.

I don't care if they deem it a planet or not, but to my way of thinking, a "dwarf planet" is still a planet, just as a "bad decision" is still a decision.

TY for sharing, however. It's nice to see the photos. Plus, it's always good to know there are Pluto fans still around and that they have friends in high enough places to get a probe sent to check out Pluto.

All the best.

BTW, for you real Pluto junkies, the Discovery Science network will air Direct from Pluto: First Encounter on Wednesday, July 15th. I presume the show will discuss whatever the probe the OP mentioned found.

All the best.
