It's the SAME components the only difference in a MAC is its operating system and mother board. And the components that make up the Mac are the same exact ones you will find on an ASUS motherboard for example. I have a MAC and a PC which I use for gaming. I been with MS since the days of DOS and Windows 3.1 and I never really had issues except for occasional hardware failure. Much like a car an OS requires some maintenance, most people don't realize this. And hoesntly Amiga was probably one of the best computers ever built. Till the turn of the century MACs where shit. Only good for playing Oregon Trail and doing some Photoshop.

LOL yeah like they are made by magical elves, across the street from Santa's Workshop. In reality they are made at FOXCONN by ridiculously over worked and under paid elves we know as the Chinese.

Does it boot into the Lenovo screen or bios upon powering on?
Look for a button like this On the right of the power button All modern Lenovo pcs have this called the One Key recovery. It maybe on the side and require a small pin or paperclip to depress. Turn it off and the press this button instead of the power button to boot into the recovery partition. The on board HDD has this hidden partition to allow you to restore windows 8 without the need for back up discs. If this does not work then the HDD needs to be replaced. If it does not boot into one key at all, you may have other problems including the Motherboard. |

True on the solid state but please don't upgrade to OS10. It is yet another untested OS and you will just be a lab rat beta tester for Microsoft.

Lmao yes how are those Apple watch sells doing? So good that Apple is no longer reporting on them. Apple is just another "trendy" company that runs on its own hype. There is nothing magical about Apple, it's mostly just good marketing.

We all know there are hardcore fanboys that are blinded by that apple symbol that they would buy an itoilet and say it helped them take a better shit and that you would never have to clean it as itoilets don't get bacteria.

Idiots arguing about Apple vs. PC.... Take that somewhere else you fanboys
On a serious note OP, I did see that you were able to load another HDD and it was installing Windows. Did that work? What are you actually able to do now with your laptop? The only way to test the original HDD is maybe plug it into another computer with a SATA cable or whatever connection you have available and see if it can be read. If it continues to fail to load, but your laptop seems to be running with the other drive, then it's a likely HDD failure. There are places that you can take it where they attempt to recover the data, but they are sketchy usually and aren't always successful. In my years building PC's, I've had one older HDD fail on me. Since then, I've gone to solid state drives and have never had any issues. I still have one regular 500 GB drive I use for backing up some data, but it sees little actual use and it seems to be running fine when I do need to get something from it. SSD's have no moving parts and are less prone to failure, although if they do fail you are SOL and they aren't exactly cheap (although prices have been coming down as they've become pretty popular).

I am currently running a 60gb hdd, my previous one couldn't be recovered through the 'one touch' partition, recovery disk, or windows USB. Sucks.

Yep, it sucks. Happened to me once before, but it is what it is. Luckily, the only thing on my disk was my music, which also happens to be on my old iPod classic, so I just transferred it back to another disc when the old one died. FWIW, I'm on my current PC build for almost 4 years now and have had zero issues. Some of the hardware is starting to get a bit outdated (like the video card and processor), but it still runs great. Like I mentioned above, SSD's are a great alternative if you're looking for a new hard drive. I have two 256GB SSD's and they work great.
