Oh? Thought Mercedes would have issue. That's if they still have a relationship with McLaren.

They split ways years ago. That's why there is no Mercedes/Mclaren F1, and why the SLS was not a "Mercedes SLS Mclaren"

If anyone has a relationship with McLaren at the moment, it's Honda in F1. Weirdly enough, a while back I saw an NSX test mule being tested alongside a McLaren 12C/650S.

No, it would be considered and electrically driven supercharger. Technically, a turbo is an exhaust driven supercharger, but everyone calls them turbos.

It all comes down to money. By sharing development costs, they both save. BMW develops the engine, McLaren develops the chassis, and neither company has to develop both. BMW just spent billions launching the 'i' sub-brand.

To split and/or reduce cost as much as possible. There's a reason why BMW hasn't gone into this segment, that is, it's cost prohibitive. This is no secret and BMW has already stated this as the reason why which is why there was that joint program with Toyota. It's not that BMW needs the knowledge or expertise of another company, they're fully capable of doing everything in-house, but being an independent, why wouldn't you try to offload costs?

It's about time BMW build a new halo car. Partnering with McLaren is just icing on the cake. This should (if it does come out) be one heck of a car. Now time to start saving.

BMW should be in talks to buy McLaren, full stop. Rolls Royce was a great tuck-in, no cannibalizing the 7 Series. McLaren would be purely additive to M cars and i Series, a whole new super car sub-brand.

I agree, especially due to the hot 570s by mclaren soon arriving. BMW should at least own a signifcant amount of shares in McLaren. If they develop a proper business plan, BMW could buy McLaren and make their money back in only a few years.

Totally agree. The 2 companies would be great together and form a formidable alliance.

Also to help fight the potential (according to rumors) Mercedes buying Aston.
