He made no complaints about being "unable to get power down" or "poor exhaust note" in the F80....how refreshing

My Bro inlaw says his M3 CSL was best M3 when I had my F80 and perhaps he is right. The EPS and turbos seems a step backwards in the feel of driving. One of the reasons I traded my F80 for my Evo FE and GT4. The GT4 EPS is better than most hydraulic steering but miles behind the 997GT3's.
The biggest problem with the F82 would be the GTR. The newest GTR is just the better car in almost everyway. |

So M Division should do a couple billion$ development on the old motor when you can get better results on the S55 with a $300 tune. Good plan. You'd think that BMW would have thought of that, but obviously they're not as smart as you.

The E46 M3 has everything you need in an M3 and nothing that you don't. Initially I held onto mine when I picked up my E90 but surprisingly I found myself choosing the E90 every single time when I left the house. I ended up selling the E46 after a short while as it was rarely driven. The E46 does everything excellently, but the E90 does everything even better; nostalgia does some weird things to the mind. Your switch to F80 might or might not yield the same results as it is a different concept with the turbos. As much as I considered keeping the E46, there really wasn't any rationality behind it other than nostalgia. Nevertheless, the E46 M3 still has a special place in my heart. It seems that M3s in general have that affect on its owners. Seldom is their ownership and driving experience something easily forgotten.

I know there's gonna be a lot of people that disagree but owning a e46 and f80 currently and owning an e90 in the past, I feel that the fastest isn't necessarily the best. I've come to realize that the overall feel trumps all, I equally enjoy the f80 and e46 for different reasons, If I had to have one, it would probably be the e90.

Great video and in the rain no less - well done. I'd like one of each.
If I had to pick one and only one to keep forever it would be the E46. Best looks, best combo of driver feel and performance. F80 is so impressive; supercar performance in an everyday package. |

That was pretty bad: comparing Vanos to Vtec, saying it changes cam profile. Vanos changes only cam timing.
And as said, E30 maybe special, historic, I would not want to own one for same reasons as he mentioned.

Nice video. I disagree about the looks. I think the E46 looks the best by far. It even holds up today.
My order: E46 F80 E36 E92 (looks a little plain) E30 (too boy racer) Also I am surprised he bought the E36 after driving the E46.

My order:
E46 F80 E90 E36 E30 I absolutely love my f80 and it can easily be turned into a complete monster and super car killer..but the e46 is a special and raw sports car.

Never had nor driven an E30 M3. I did own an E30 325is which I did love for its feel, handling, and actually properly fast due to its lightness. Just as the reviewer said, I'm afraid to meet/own an E30 M3 (price aside of course) as I may be a little let down due to the super high expectation for the crazy hype this car has.
The E36 was never really that appealing to me. It's looks very not that much different from the standard E36 model line up, you had to look very closely or be a car person to be able to tell the differences. Although looks to be put aside, We on the US only got the diluted version of the E36 M3, so that's way its my least favorite M3, never owned one, but driven them many times. I have never owned one. I Loved my E46 M3 in every way from its meaner looks, size, feel, and amazing performance, but I was on the need for 4 doors for the convenience of my growing family. Perfection to me would be if BMW made production of the E46 M3 sedan. The E90/E92 has a glorious V8 engine that has the true sound and performance of a race car, no doubt. But, in order the squeeze performance of this machine, you really have to kick the revs very high (screaming loving sound) which driving it around public roads made lots of people give you dirty looks and right away tag you with a "typical BMW driver" as we all know. The V8 has great power, but the performance on the car suffered a bit due to the vehicles weight. Now on to the F80. I do love this car a lot. As a performance machine, it's amazing and pretty much destroys all of its competition (please correct me if I'm wrong). As a small family sedan its fantastic as it has more legroom than my F10 did but a bit lees shoulder room. On the looks department its a true winner. When looking a standard F30 vs. he M3, you don't have to be a car person to able to tell something is rather special in that car. As a luxury sedan, it tickles all of the boxes for me, aside from the little random interior cricks, not bad but not as quiet as my F10 (maybe I'm getting old lol). The one thing or maybe 2 things (at least for me) that I like much better on the E90/E92 compared to my F80, its obviously the intoxicating V8 engine sound, I mean I love the MPE on my car, but it's not match for the V8 sound. The second thing, I understand the F80 handling its much better than the E9X M3, but I wish my car had a lower ride height and less fender gaps. I know it's been engineered to perform extremely well as it sits, but it could benefit from a drop and look much more aggressive. And this is not just BMW, its actually most every manufacture doing this due to strict vehicle safety regulations. Anyway, my $0.02 on the M3 comparison. |
