It honestly depends on many factors. I still remember my first track day, where one of the instructors in an 80s slow car trounced all the modern BMWs & Porsches on the track. Made us all realize how important driver skill is when driving fast.
But, most of what we enjoy everyday is Torquey acceleration which is what scares the passengers. You'll be surprised how quickly you get used to it if you drive a fast car everyday. Also, if you have an Electric car like Tesla, going fast is dull because of the lack of throaty engine sound. |

That depends on who you ask, but there's internet proof that while not quite as fast as an R Spec Jenny, a stock M3 can walk a P1 from a dig or roll.

I think fast is relative to your surroundings.
What may seem a fast car in the UK may not seem as fast in the USA given that V6 & V8 engines are a common site. A lot will say otherwise but I would consider a 320D a reasonably fast car. No it's no rocket and it won't win any races but compare it to your average run of the mill family car that make up a large proportion of the cars on the road? It will also go neck and neck with a fiesta ST which is a modern hot hatch. Personally I would consider anything around 250bhp+ to be a pritty fast car with above average performance. |

More power to weight ratio for me.
Lots of fairly powerful cars are so heavy, they struggle to move. IMO 200bhp/tonne is when cars start getting fast. But anything over 150 is perfectly nippy enough. |

As others have said, it's really all relative. Depends on one's past measuring stick, and what it's being compared to.
For the sake of trying to 'answer' the question, I think anything low 12's and trapping in the 120 ballpark is fast for a 'real' street car. |

Objectively a Cayenne GTS is probably faster than my Z4M, check out 0-60 and 1/4 mile times, many would declare it the winner based on these numbers.

This happened to me riding in a high hp GTR. Literally everything feels slow now. Not really the hp number, but the way in which it puts that power down.

When I was in the Air Force and was flying the F4 Phantom, I thought it was fast because it would go 1600mph+. It was, however, a terrible daily driver - took miles to do a 180 and used thousands of gallons per hour.
So, being fast is not always the best measure

Fast is entirely relative. Humans have been riding rocket powered craft for decades now and those can accelerate fast enough to kill people. Same with fighter jets / aerobatic planes, they are often limited in turning acceleration by what the pilot can withstand. Cars and bikes seem kinda disappointing when you realize that.
As far as cars go, very very few people on this forum have sat in, let alone driven, legitimately fast cars (top fuel dragster, sprint car, f1). |

http://www.autoevolution.com/news/al...deo-98740.html The R1 time is within a second of a 2015 GT-R. As for living to 70, well that I have no argument for! |

We've been working with the Bloodhound team and been to the factory; 1000mph. Probably feels fast.
I think some get a distorted view; my point is my little hatch felt fast when I got it, felt (and was) fast when I tracked it, still feels fast. It's a much healthier place to be in. For noticeable extra performance, I'd need to double my budget. Which I won't because that's being spent on a VW California. |
