Same thing on Jeep Wrangler. Your loaner is the local Enterprise rental car guy comes and gets you and you pay for it.

Just carry a plug in tuner for loaner days, problem solved

I guess many of the US users are spoiled for car choice.

For some over here getting a 320i as a loaner, would be 'upgrading' from the daily driver.

We start with a 318i, 3-cylinder 1.5 engine. Never mind something like a 116d, 1.5 3-cylinder diesel.

Simple, I remember that I could not have anything to drive at all. IDC if they give me a Fiesta. That said, yeah, the 320i is, what me and my buddy call, the "Why Buy a Camry?" car from BMW.

In reality, I don't mind at all. It just makes me appreciate my own car more when I get it back.

Think of it this way...you drop off a 320i, and they give you an M3. How discontent would you be with your own car after that?

I love ours.
What's not to like?

Sure ours is certainly not stock (flashed, M sport bumpers and lip and trunk lip, HRE's, suspension, etc) but for a daily, it's pretty great. Looks awesome and is easy on the wallet. Not to mention then 30+ mpg.

I will buck the trend and say I like my e93 320i-just wafting along with the roof down-don't get many opportunities to floor it anyway.

I'm ok with anything I get as a loaner. I drive it home, to work and then back to the dealer, the idea that I need to demand something that is more to my "requirements" makes me cringe to even think about. I also hope that being reasonable will help with them being reasonable when it comes to how they treat me which may or may not be true.

I will ask if there is another choice but let it go if there isn't.

I agree.. During the haggle process for my chicks 2016 228xi they threw in the BS paint protection.. Dropped the car off for the weekend and got her a 320xi loaner.. The car is virtually undrivable in unless its in in sports mode all the time.. The 228xi and the 335 are light years ahead of it but I'm not gonna be a "gary" about it and I'll still drive it like I stole it. The car is probably just a notch faster than a stock Civic (not SI).

Bunch of retards.. I'd take a M235 or 228 over any 320/328.

If you take into consideration like a non sport pack 320i... the only thing that it has over every other sedan in a lower price range is RWD. If you discount that, A V6 Accord is probably a far better, cheaper car.

go read the car mag tests of the 320i when it came out...perhaps it's the loaner lack of sport seats and suspension, but my impression is that it's actually a decent car if what you want is a car and not a feature box

Mostly agree -- but only for the U.S. market. Though: keep in mind that in Europe, BMW is much more of a "commoner" car than in 'Murica. The 320i exists primarily for the EU. So why not import it if it can be a good "gateway" car for BMW NA (not to mention relatively cheap loaners for BMW owners here)?

Someone needs to drive a 1M, or an M2 ... hell: even an an M240i will do.

Finally: I concur with those who are basically saying "Just be happy you're getting a free car to drive around at all". Just because you own an M3 or above doesn't mean you have a right to an equivalent as a free ride. You don't. Nowhere close. You really don't have a right to a loaner, period. Even BMW states that it's basically first-come-first-served for the program.

+1, I was thinking the same thing.

I could see if you had bought one and had buyers remorse, but a free loaner car that you have to drive for a few days?!? Who cares what it is as long as it does the job.

You need to find the Gary thread.. Mother fucker owns a 7 and demands they give him a 7 as a loaner because what would his neighbor think when he rolls up in a 5.

Funny enough I was at my local dealership with my e92 328xic (pre-M3) and a guy there with an E92 M3 REFUSED to take any other car. He demanded that he receive a comparable M3 to drive as a loaner. Eventually left with a 328i, but he made sure that everyone in dealership knew how upset he was with the dealer and how ridiculous they were. smh.

I always hated turning in my pretty well loaded E92 328xic 6MT for a E90 328i AT, but hey a loaner is a loaner and it was better than walking. Or an old buick (the first loaner I got from BMW ever lol)

When a thread is named after you by others ... you are either a bad-ass or a sorry-ass. This guy's squarely in the latter category.

I think a lot of people missed the point... a base loaner 320i doesnt offer any driving experience that the brand was built on... a manual transmission, sports pack car does... the chance of that being a rental is zip zip zero... A base non sport pack 320i is imho a car worse than a fully loaded accord considering similar price points, that is unless you absolutely have to have Rwd... in which case, in a 180 hp dd and the target market that these cars are made for, i am not sure there is much point.
