I do have to echo some of hte similar sentiments here & say Smoking Tire vids are getting less & less interesting. Matt Farah's far from a technical car person but he should definitely do a little bit more homework & get his facts per car in line.

E60 M5 in the area go for $40-45k depending on condition/mileage. There are two E39 M5's are asking for $60k+. I think that pretty much sums up which car is better between the two, never mind BMW of all-time. |

the manual tranny in the e60 m5 is notorious for overheating. Stupid for bmw not to include a separate tranny cooler/heat exchanger.

The 6MT was available for 2007 production (08/2006 -> ), but that model year ended with 02/2007 production, and the "2008" model year here in the US started with 03/2007 and lasted through 07/2008. The early 6MT cars did not allow DSC to be disabled (BMWNA was fearful of wheel hop induced rear end damage apparently), but the outrage was so strong that they introduced DSC off ability with 09/2007 production (could have been 08/2007, hazy memory on that date) and also offered a software update for earlier cars at the same time.
As to the E39 M5 out-appreciating the E60 M5, that ship has long since sailed. A 400 mile E39 M5 recently sold for $150,000, and low mileage, well-kept cars are selling well above $70k. A 2003 E39 M5 with 25k miles will easily price way above a similar mileage E60 M5 in the marketplace right now. So far the bug hasn't caught on with the E60 M5, but I'm guessing it is coming to some extent...same for the E63 M6 I would think, especially and notably if these are 6MT. Again, the primo examples will lead the way when (if) market demand takes off on the E60. With jcolley out there providing real solutions to some of the S85's issues along with outstanding support/advice, it makes owning one somewhat less foreboding too. I would guess for quality, low mileage, well-kept examples with good provenance, they have bottomed in depreciation in the past 1-2 years.

E46 m3 including csll, e60 and e92 will go down as the pinnacle of M engineering. While people love tge,e39 it wasn't necessarly a technical marvel. The s54 technology led to s85 and s65.
The cool thing about the,v10 and v8 is for a naturally aspirated motor, they really performed with bolt ons , especially uncorking exhaust flow by removing cats. Takes header replacement on e60 but as most know a simple xpipe on e92. Uncorked and restricted an extra 20 to 25 bph from that and it really let the motor hit an impressive 110 bph/litre. That's on par with almost any super car NASCAR engine outside 458 and 991 gt3 Cool cars, and miss that we never could see continued development of NASCAR motors. I was sure hoping for Cam less NA engines before it came to an end but that now won't happen |

why so much hate for the E60 M5 6MT? IMO, it's the pinnacle of M.
No one says it has to be the fastest car ever. It's just the ultimate combo of looks, sounds, and speed. Coincidentally, I was behind a E63 M6 yesterday. I have to say, that wail of the high revving V10...it beats the pants off my S65B40 and your E46s all day any day. So those who says the E46 M3 is better, it's just absurd...The E46 is not even better than the M5's little brother, the E9X M3. So don't go there with this absurdity.
