Yeah, I'm confused by those remarks as well. The line-up is starting to get pretty tight:

Model: Wheelbase, Length
F32 4-series: 110.6 in (2,810 mm), 182.7 in (4,641 mm)
F13 6-series: 109.4 in (2,779 mm), 192.8 in (4,895 mm)

In terms of wheelbase, there isn't much room for the 6-series to get any smaller without becoming the 4-series. The larger size of the 6-series is mostly overhang, so BMW could tighten that up a bit, but the 4-series has gotten so big, any hopes of a smaller 6-series seem pretty thin.

Why produce a car for just the 1% of the population when you can produce more cars for the other 99% of the population.
On the other hand it will be good to see a Series M4 GC......

I think all Brand loyal members in here like the idea of a 8 series.
The 6 series is nice, but it's a heavy GT, and the biggest seller is the Grand coupe.
In my head, a 8 series Grand coupe, will do better than the 7, not ever seeing great numbers.
The Q is what with the 6 series then, what kind of role will it play?
BMW have some work to do with their model line up.
Above all, i welcome a 2 series grand coupe.

Amazing how confusing BMW branding has got over the past few years. What happened to focusing on driving pleasure versus so many models to chose from?

To add I like the idea of the 8 series, then again I just wish they had a true M1, M3, M5 and kept it at that for M cars.

I don't know where you got 911 from. The article mentioned it would be a 5 series GT that will use the 6 name plate. I hope this "gt" will not be similar to the 3 series gt, which is absolutely horrendous.

The 8 series will go against the couple SL which makes sense, but thinking the 6 series will be on par with 911 is bit of a reach.

The return of the 8 Series will easily carry the Grand Tourer mantle, and BMW has much unfinished business with the 8 Series: a cabriolet and the first-ever M8 (official).

1, 2,3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and the 9 Series which will be the bridge car between BMW and Rolls-Royce.

Bring on the damn 8 Series!!!!!
Hopefully we get a 13 series too, a minivan, powered by a hamster wheel, bicycle pedals, and one rechargeable 9 volt battery, all powering the left front wheel....

Joking aside, I'd love to see an 8 series again. I hope it looks as good and unique as the old one!!

No, I'm not referring to this latest bit of news, but a prior article that stated as such. I can dig it up later when I'm not at work.

EDIT: this is what I was thinking of, where the rumor was that the 6 series would just be a lighter coupe or GT to take on the 911: http://jalopnik.com/bmw-may-be-reviv...ort-1779731600

Because BMW at the end of the day is still a company that need to make profits.

That is all there is to it really.

Bravo. I think the 8 series coming back is a great thing. Gives them a real heavy hitter to rival the s class coupe.
But I think the biggest benefit is BMW will now get a car to rival the 911. If tumors are true about the 6 being a 911 rival, BMW will then have a car for all the enthusiasts that say the M3/4 isn't as track focused and raw enough for their standards. Too much daily drivability that hurts it's rawness.

That is where problems start. Tesla hasn't made profit in years but they got wonderful reputation giving value to customers. I'm not saying this is the way to go but there must be somewhere in between Bmw could aim.

And that's why BMW product is getting less desirable. I've had 8 BMWs and this will be the last X5 and M5 I will get. I'm not interested in high volume lower quality product

This is getting confusing... In the last few months we have heard a) There will be a re-worked "911 fighter" 6 series coupe and b) The only 6 series remaining will be a combination replacement for the 5GT/6GC, which whatever it's called implies 4 doors.

Or are both essentially correct and the "911 fighter" is going to be badged as an 8 with the only remaining 6 being a 5-door sedan to compete with the A7 etc.

Does SCOTT26 care to weigh in?

The real question is, why is this so far away? The 6 series has had abysmal sales for a few years now, are you really going to keep producing the same thing for 3 more years?

You cannot simply scrap a car that quickly after all the money that goes into developing the car and tooling up a factory.
1. I'm sure they are making plenty of money off of the high price, low volume car
2. If they are really underwater on the 6er you basically telling them to just take a loss instead of continuing to sell the car so that overhead and other fixed costs get covered....or in simpler terms continuing to sell it so they break even.

C'mon now

Year over year sales have gone down for the last 4 years, including the lCI year. They should have seen this coming a while ago.
