Watched it tonight with the family. It is VERY good! Extremely accurate to the ANIME which is among the best ever made. I give it 5/5. I'm biased to the genre though and want to see many more ANIME to live action movies.

Ghost in the Shell has always been one of my favorite anime movies so i was both excited and intrigued when i started to see the trailers. What amazed me is the money they have spent advertising this movie. The audience for this movie in the US is quite small so i couldnt believe i saw commercials for it every time i turned on the tv. I went to see it Thursday night in 3D and i must say it doesnt disappoint. It was very true to the original with amazing imagery a plot that followed extremely close to the original. If i had to be critical about something it would be the music. To me, one of the more impactful aspects of the original was the music and sounds which were understated in the remake. That being said, it is a must see for any fan of the original or sci-fi movies. Enjoy!

^^ To touch on your point...
They definitely marketed the heck out of this movie! But notice, it never said "from the world Wide phenomenon Anime" or something like that?? That's because Hollywood wants it to be a original and fresh idea to the consumer. Had they referenced "anime", I believe they would have confused far too many potential viewers. I am now reading that Akira is being green lighted! All I want is my favorite Anime of all time to be made: NINJA SCROLL |

I tried watching the anime a couple nights ago, but I could not get into it at all. Maybe because it was set to dubbed. I can't stand watching anime dubbed.
I will give it a go again when I can find it subtitled. I hope it picks up and is profitable so more anime selections will get live action remakes of quality. |

Worst movie I seen in my life. That's the first movie I fell asleep in the theater.

Watched it with some friends who are anime fans. I thought it was decently good/okay since I don't know anything about the Anime and only saw it because Scarlett. My friends told me that the movie was not accurate as they combined a couple of movies from the Anime. Also, the hacker guy was a bad guy but in the live action movie they made him look like a good guy. I had some wine before the movie so maybe that's what made it enjoyable.

Honestly, judging this movie from an a viewpoint independent of the anime as I've only seen a bit of GITS years ago...
The movie wasn't actiony enough to be a good action movie, smart enough to be a good sci-fi movie, or sexy enough to just enjoy objectifying Scarlett Johansson. I tend to turn of my rational brain during movies so I rarely predict or anticipate a movie's plot but this was so ridiculously predictable from beginning to end because it was a sloppy assembly of hollywood tropes. Even the outdoor scenes which were, I guess, intended to be a visual treat, left me feeling like they allowed George Lucas to act on his fear of not having something moving on every single square inch of screen real estate. This movie was insulting to sci-fi lovers everywhere and, I presume, doubly so for fans of Anime.
