Maybe you should never finance a new Porsche because of shitty rates but even their leases suck if you go over their stupid ass lease cap. |

I think the point was that buying new was foolish because of the initial depreciation hit. If you can buy smart though like you did, new is a good deal. Here in TX where we have to pay tax on the entire purchase price of the car if you lease, it's dumb to do that unless you can write it off as a business expense. If you are going to buy new, I agree that financing for low interest rates is better than paying cash. As far as the rates go, it's tough to get under 1% on used vehicles. |

The thing I'd look for is if the car your buying has a warranty. So either buy new or CPO. I learned my lesson on my 2006 M6 I bought out of warranty and ended up sinking close to $10k into it over 3 years to maintain it. Many people can afford these cars but have no idea what it takes to maintain them as they age.

that being said, you should think about what YOU want to use the car for, instead of just asking us what we use it for. Do you live in an urban area with not much parking and mostly driving for personal use? if so lease a new one and use it as your car. do you live in a rural area where you have a garage, plenty of space, but commute 100 miles a day? then probably get a used one, and keep a DD/ Beater- it's your call. |

I've always bought my cars 1-3 years old with very low miles to avoid the depreciation loss. My Z4M was used, but I bought it from a well known BMW M-dealer and it had full paperwork and service history so I felt confident that the car would be fine, and it is. Literally the only maintenance I've had to do was an oil change and it was an early one since the car doesn't get driven that much.
Some AMG models are more reliable than others. There are a lot of variables that determine if a car will be easy on the wallet or not. The biggest one is whether or not the car was well maintained and if there are known issues with that model year. The only AMG car that I'd buy used and out of warranty would be a well-maintained C63 AMG (2012-2014). I believe they fixed the head-bold issues after 2011 and the car avoids the Air-Matic suspension which tends to be problematic later on. |
