Your friend is gay, and so is his so called rule.
I always back in at work, but just pull in anywhere else most of the time. I prefer to back in though. It started with my truck. It was always easier to pull out of spots if I was backed in. And I can always get it right the first time. |

There are so many variables that can be factored into the term "sports car" that it can mean several different things. Ideally, its usually a 2dr coupe with 2 seats and a rwd platform. So if it makes you happy, no, the 335i isn't a true "sports car". The Evo/Sti is definitely by no means a sports car in any category. It's more or less a sporty sedan, and this is coming from someone who owns an sti. |

A 3er is not a straight up sports car in any way. It's a sports luxury sedan. Nothing more.
It needs to drop a good 400lbs and 2 seats.

As I understand it, the cars that originally defined the concept of sports cars didn't have much power at all. Think MG, Alfa, etc. Light, good handling (for the era), but power wasn't their thing. I think GT is a better description for your average bimmer, vette, etc. Porsche may be close with the boxster (under powered POS) to a sports car, but the 911 and the "S" class porsches seem to be more in line with BMW alternatives. Maybe it's time to re-define sports car.

I always back in just b/c it's a bit safer that way. When you're entering a spot, it's easier to see what's around you and can back in while being alert of your surroundings. If you're pulling out in reverse, you lose some of that ability to know what's going on around you even w/checking mirrors etc. Plus, I got into the habit of it after working 2 yrs at a company which required everyone to back into spots in their lot.

If you ever had a defensive driving course, they teach you that it is always safer to back in a parking spot, sports car or not.
