E63 AMG or M5 would be my choice if wagons and SUV's are off the table. If on a budget I'd go with a Hellcat for the fun factor.

Sure, it violates both your no-Panamera and no-wagon criteria, but I think you should reconsider. It is what I'd choose.
This is 100000% what I'd choose. I drove the 4S version the other day and I've spent ever second since scheming to get one. Truly an exceptional vehicle in every possible way.

My 2 cents:

I second the vote for a Macan GTS Turbo. It checks all your boxes, isn't a Panamera (as great as they are, they're LOOOONG), and will have utility and provide satisfaction far beyond your road trip -- and if it doesn't, Macans probably have the best resale value of any Porsche right now. A GTS will mitigate that even more.

If an SUV form factor isn't desirable, for your purpose I'd echo the sentiment toward a late-model (2014-15 for Gen 2, 2016 or later for Gen 3) CTS-V in whatever style you prefer (coupe, sedan, wagon). Dealers galore all across the country, relatively bulletproof Z06 Corvette engine, performance comparable to an M5/RS7, and you'd be able to get one for the equivalent of a reasonably-priced song.

There is not GTS Turbo, it's one or the other, and Macans definitely do not have the best resale of any Porsche right now....not even close.

GTS, then. (Getting my P-car nomenclature mixed up)

And if Macans are the best-selling Porsche model by a considerable margin, wouldn't that mean demand is high for them? If not, I stand corrected. Even so, a Macan GTS is surely going to hold its value more than a base Macan.

If you need to haul stuff but want a car-like feel?

No specific order:

CTS-V Wagon
V60 Polestar
E63 AMG Wagon
Macan/Cayenne Turbo
RS4/RS6 Avant if you can source one.

If you’re only going to use a specific car for your coast-to-coast vacation then I’m afraid the choice of vehicle is a simple one. It has to be an Aston Martin Vanquish S Coupe. It’s got class, style and a beautiful V12, who would want for more.

Well the S and GTS do technically have turbos right? I saw an S with a Turbo plate frame and was annoyed, friend did remind me of that fact.

I did Philly to Buffalo in just over 5 hours in a Macan S. Don't bother mapping it to see distance that is damn fast. Drove back the next day and was no worse for the wear. It's a great long distance hauler. But the Panamera Turismo is so much better - although costs twice as much at least in 4S trim that I drove.

Yes, the S and GTS have turbos, but they are not the Turbo model. The Macan GTS was an awesome ride, loved it. Ended up buying a Cayenne Turbo instead though....$156k MSRP car for $47k or $85k MSRP car for $70k....seemed like no brainer. More space and V8 too.

The Cayenne Turbo is a pretty incredible car. Love the Cayenne GTS too, but the power of the Turbo is much better (especially tuned) and they come way more loaded while holding about the same price point as a GTS. GTS models with $95-110k MSRP were in the same range as what I paid with similar mileage, sometimes higher, plus my car came with the SportDesign kit ($6k option on Turbo, standard on GTS) and all blacked out painted trim, so it looks just like a GTS.

Yeah when we were looking 1. Cayenne wasn't comfortable in and out for dad and 2. His commute was 5 miles per day so it had to be the Macan and once that decision was made there was no base or GTS then just S or Turbo, and the Turbo was way overkill.

I’m old. Kids are grown; done the van and suburban thing eons ago. Work car is a Durango R/T which is pretty good on a long drive, too. But I want more of a GT (classic meaning, Grand Tourer), which implies a car. In my head, a modern 850i or 928s. But I’m really interested in what you and others like/prefer. In that sense, this is more of a thought exercise.
Did the Van and thing ....ago. won't take much to improve on a Durango ride.

I love events like these; vintage rallies and such. I don’t know if the BABE rally (big Apple to big easy) is still on, but that would be a hoot too.

But no, that’s not really what I had in mind! Drove my M3 560 miles on Monday, returning home tomorrow afternoon. Arrived fine but stopped 3 times more than I wanted (which was one time for fuel) just to stretch and limber up. The M3 is nice but it doesn’t really cruise well.

I've found that it cruises much better with the bottom seat tilted back a bit more than what I commute with. It has good support. My i3 though, is way more comfortable. I could sit in it all day.

Budget option: Charger R/T with BBK and all options.

The car was good on gas when I drove it approx. 3000mls through the southern US, it has plenty of power (enough to get you into trouble at least) and you will find a dealer/workshop anywhere in the country.

Sure, a lot of the other options are great too, but why not buy American
