AMEX platinum holder here for about 6 years: the only places ive found that do not accept it are smaller local places (europe, caribbean, mexico, and canada). never any issues with large national / international businesses / chains.

this has always been my justification for keeping the AMEX platinum. while ive never needed to exercise the full extent of its powers, i do have close friends who travel frequently who swear the card has saved their a$$e$ multiple times over the years.

not to mention: it's pretty cool to be carrying around a card that empowers you to walk into a BMW dealership, slap down the card, and just walk out with a brand new M5 competition.

Not to burst your bubble but every dealer I've been to will only allow me to charge $3000 Max on any credit card.

What does that have to do with this thread though?

Keep in mind the Centurion Lounge by AMEX in all the airports are way better than those offered by CSR. Chase works with Priority Pass for providing cardholders the access to those lounges under Priority Pass program.

However, it does not make a big of a difference for this if you do not travel enough to enjoy these better lounges. Go with the card that offers more bonuses (points, credit, etc...).

From my experience, redeeming hotel through CSR portal has been very easy. I would imagine AMEX offers the same level of experience though.

Got to check out the 100k points you guys are talking about though.

Sorry for the confusion, happyjack said he can use his Amex platinum card to buy m5 at the dealer.

Yeah, I saw they added that. It happened after I cancelled my card so I never got to use it.

That is the one thing I miss about CSR - the lounge access on international flights. I'll probably pick it up again when I qualify again for the new customer sign up bonus.

For now, I'm satisfied with my Uber Visa card as my primary travel and dining rewards card. 4x cash back on dining, 3x on travel, $50 Amazon Prime credit, cell phone insurance and no annual fee.

I calculated that for the CSR to beat Uber Visa on my usage, I'd need to spend over $2k a month on travel and dining for it to be worth it over Uber because of the $150 (450-300) annual fee... I don't spend $24k a year on dining and travel.

Thanks for this, I didn't know they allowed PP to be used at these two.

The $150 isn’t too bad as I don’t travel too often. 3-4 x year. But I kept it for the 50% bonus and zero foreign transaction fees along with lounge access.

i have a reserve... it has gotten really ratchet...

started awesome, initial sign on in points was double... now its half, lounges are always packed since everyone has that shitty priority pass and thei travel portal has been reassigned to expedia instead of their own... the deals arent the same and half the time it doesn even work....

i would not recommend it at this point

It's not a bad deal. It really depends on how much you value the extras like lounge access, global entry fee refunds, full primary rental car insurance etc.

In terms of pure rewards, the CSR returns about 4.5% (3x points redeemed at 150%) vs the 4% cash back on Uber. I would need to spend a lot every year to make it worthwhile on CSR for $150 in annual fees. Uber also has no foreign transaction fees so that's a wash.

As I said, really depends on how much you value the CSR extras. If you hit the lounge every month, that'd make up the difference.

So I ended up applying for the Amex Platinum card today for the 100K rewards points. Got my card number online and switched out some auto pay stuff. Should easily hit $5K soon and start planning the trip around the world with 125K points. Lol

Thanks MK! Figured why not try it for a year and see. Still have a ton of points with Chase Reserve so I'd need to transfer them somewhere should I stay with Amex exclusively.

Thank you. Folks at work we're recommending it too, especially for the sign up bonus so I figured why the heck not?

The Amex is amazing. Already got the global entry credit back. $15 a month credit on uber is nice. Already spent $100 on saks. Patiently waiting for the 100k miles. Going to go all out.
Thanks everyone for the feedback.

What do you mean patiently waiting for the 100K points? It gets credited to your account as soon as you hit $5k spending right? Speaking of, I worked out some numbers since applying for it last night and have $4,500 already on the card. Should have the 100K points to my account before receiving my 1st statement. Lol

I spent 5k last week but I still don't see any points as of today.

UPDATE: Had to call Amex now. Rep stated it takes couple of weeks for the points to hit.
