I've owned all BMWs for two decades but my next car will be a Mercedes because I want a wagon and BMW NA doesn't sell them anymore.
I guess Tesla is too new to be on the list. Tesla owners I know are talking about them like iPhones. I imagine loyalty over there would be equivalent to Mac loyalty, extremely high.

I had a 1992 Lexus SC300 Coupe with a 5 speed manual. It was a great car, drove great, great style, great build quality, very high quality interior. I would have bought another but they replaced it with the bizarre looking SC430 hardtop convertible which I had no interest in and have had BMWs ever since.
My first BMW was a 2007 335i Convertible with run flat tires and sport suspension. Very poorly engineered car (suspension). Once I ditched the RFTs and installed Koni FSD dampers its a very good car. Since then I have had a 750Lis and 2 M4s and have been happy with all of them.

Not surprising.
Even with BMW’s less than stellar reliability it’s doesnt matter as these cars are mostly leased. And now that they’ve dumbed down their steering the masses will keep returning. For me personally the only BMW I’ll consider for my next purchase is the M2. Everything else has lost the plot. When I eventually have kids though (many years away)BMW’s SAVs will be at the top of my shopping list. My entire family has been loyal to BMW for years but held off on replacing E chassis cars with F models since they sucked to drive. But now the Es are getting old so my folks picked up a new G05 M sport, their 3rd X5. Even though we all dislike the aloof steering there’s something about the X5 that keeps us loyal. Really the perfect family luxury suv, especially with how special ours is (M sport carbon blk, 22 in wheels, Tartufo merino, glass controls, etc). Looks badass. |

Those who dismiss Lexus as a boring vehicle are missing the point. Many value comfort and reliability as much as (or even more so) than we, BMW loyalists, value driving dynamics.
I convinced my brother, a life-long Lexus buyer, to buy the e60 many years ago, and after 3 years of ownership, he switched back to Lexus. He says Lexus cars are just more comfortable and the dealership experience is far superior. For example, when he left his BMW for service, he got a stripper 3-series as a loaner, where as a Lexus dealer would have given him a car that is equivalent to what he brought in for service. Another example, after his battery was diagnosed as faulty still under warranty, his BMW dealer told him that it wasn't covered and had him pay for replacement, where as his Lexus dealer would go out of its way to please him for any faulty parts instead of splitting hairs on warranty coverage. Unfortunately for BMW, the ultimate driving machine slogan has become more of a marketing exercise than building what it is supposed to portray (e.g. count the number of ///M badges on non-M cars, or M-Sport packages that are more bling-bling than actual performance parts). After 20-years and 9 BMWs, it may be time to say adieu to the brand if the C8 Corvette is as exciting as it looks on paper. |

Plenty of BMW dealers give equal or better loaners if you simply ask, and I never had to pay for replacement batteries let alone any other repairs to my bmw dealers, ever. Oh and good luck servicing your future C8 |

I think a lot of S class owners tend to stay loyal to Mercedes. My uncle growing up got his first S class in the 80's, he's had 6 since and has now got an E class (S class was getting too big), most other S class owners in my neighborhood tend to have a new one every 3-6 years.

I can say my wife (who barely drives 5k mile/yr) loves her Lexus. I drive it more than she does and I can tell you, this Rx (our 4th one) is our last one. Driving dynamics are awkward, somehow it oversteers AND understeers (don't ask me how), driving feel is worse than the last iteration in smoothness, feels nose-heavy, has soft brake feel.
Certainly not like ANY BMW I've ever owned. |

I think buyers are brought up a certain way. Meaning if you are told Lexus is reliable and cheaper to own you lean toward that brand. Due to there repretation you feel you are getting great value. You validate your own belief (because people do not want to be wrong), so most buyers do not even drive, research or do due diligence on other cars to see what's out on the market. Unless they have a bad experience.
That is how I feel about BMW, I was researching doing my due diligence. I went to MB had a bad experience and said forget this I'll stick with BMW.

i'm not surprised with lexus being on top..every lexus dealership i went too has had excellent customer service from sales to service..also their cars have good resale value and are reliable.
i'm surprised with mercedes being so high...i always receive crap customer service from them. Unless you look like your 65+ yrs old. BMW makes great driving cars and has pretty good service. i can see them at 3. I figured it would be lexus or porsche would be 1 or 2. |
