To be fair, the I6 in the F8x already sounds like a John Deer. The F8x with competition sounds like a John Deer that's angry.

Multiple sources 'speculatively' (if that is a word) confirm this. No confirmation form AMG or even talks of it.
There was talks of previous current gen. going 6 cyl. before it came out but here we are.

Original Topic: I'll believe this when I see it but have heard/seen this rumor a few times. Seems like a pretty drastic leap for a company that could have easily made an excuse to get rid of the V8 in the C-AMGs years ago. I see a TT-6 cylinder before a 4 cyl./hybrid. As some one else said, I'd be interested in a C63 but man that exterior is terribland. |

Im not a fan of this change, but to be fair the CLA AMG 4 cylinder sounds pretty good.

If it really is a 4 cyl then that will suck! I am guessing either I6 or V6. It seems they are switching all of their regular sixes to inline. But hope is that they'll keep the V8, time will tell.

Sad news if true. I've always kind of seen AMG to be like the muscle cars of Germany with putting these big V8's in small compact vehicles, not to mention they have some of the best exhaust notes out there for their V8's. I would at least hope if they are going to downsize to use their new Inline 6 instead, but most rumors seem to hint at a 4-cylinder, time will tell. Wonder if this means the C class will go into a 250/35/45 setup like the A/CLA with all 4-cylinders and no 6's/8's? Or whether they'll further screw up the nomenclature (which is pretty much already terrible).

I really think it will be awesome! Its going to lose the v8 sound, it's true, but it will gain torque and, more important for euro consumers, ir will go down on co2 levels, so for example in portugal the anual tax for the car will drop from 750€ to 250€. And that's important

Moving to a 4-cylinder could be a bad move sales wise. I mean, while the Porsche community is more hardcore/opinionated than that of AMG and M (not that we aren't ) the new Boxster/Cayman are flopping in sales, and I honestly think that the 4-cylinder is a huge reason why, not just the general decline of sports cars and sedans.

Video: Next 2021 C63 is NOT a V8! It’s a 4 Cylinder Hybrid!
Even though I'm not crazy about the idea that BMW's next M3 will have enormous kidney grills, I would still take the next M3 over the next C63. In my opinion, the whole reason anyone would choose the C63 over an M3 was because of the engine. Now it looks like this will officially be end of the V8 in the C63. Mercedes Benz fans, welcome to the family.

It'll be a mild hybrid with over 550 horsepower FROM A TURBO 4. The V8 sounds great and all but times are changing.
I'll take two. |
