Sacrilege and all, but I find the E46 design too busy. Give me a Euro motor E36 M3 or a rear subframe reinforced E36/8 S54 M Coupe and call it a day. Plus the E36 cars had slightly heavier steering (but not the stupid, fat steering wheels they use now.)

I'll never forget the day I drove a friends brand new e36 325. I was hooked.

I like my E92 but miss my E46 convertible. When I was younger, I liked modern cars but as I get older I prefer the classics. Give me a Defender90 or FJ40 and I would be happy.

the cars have steadily been losing the feeling that first attracted me to the brand. its not just you.
i do like the x5/x7, but they aren't as aesthetically pleasing as they used to be. however, i view them as comfortable suv's rather than performance cars.

I just turned 39. E46 M3 was released when I was in college. To me that car has no faults esthetically speaking. Every line was on point.

E36 was great too. E46 was just better, and then it went downhill. They did an ok job w the outgoing m3, although no fan of that engine, rest of the line up is just unattractive.

I'm a millennial, and I find this to be the case with all new cars, not just BMW. They all look like ugly spaceships. I started driving in 2006, and I remember in the early 2000s being excited about new cars that came out. Now everything looks the same, or just hideous. Newer designs are so radical that they don't age well. I remember being able to tell what a car was at night just from the headlight or tail light design.

Many cars from the late 1990s/early 2000s still look good if kept clean. I'm probably biased being "old school" at the ripe age of 29. I prefer mechanical feeling things and cars that have personality when you drive them. I drove a family friend's 1989 Honda Civic 5 speed last year, and was surprised how fun the car was, for what was at the time a cheap econobox. It felt solid, toss-able, and connected to the road. Driving it was an experience, I didn't even need the radio. Now you hop in any CUV with a giant ass screen and put it in "auto/eco/appliance" mode and it feels like you are on an escalator in a shopping mall with a steering wheel.

Oh, I agree. I kick around buying a 1800 or 2000 Alfa GTV nearly once a month. Or a Lancia Fulvia. Aside from crash safety, old cars are so much more engaging.

This right here. I was actually thinking the same thing on the ride into work this morning. I remember thinking years ago that everyone was trying to make their cars appearance similar to BMW and even Lexus.

Now unless it's a dedicated sports car, I can't see a difference at night.....unless it's a Dodge.
