You guys staying in Houston may need to get your old football helmet and pads out, if they still fit. Throw a bottle or two of Cuervo in also. Good Luck your going to need it.

The radio here in Dallas is saying we will get 50+ gusts. Where's my dog?

High waves (6 meters), rolling seas, dense foam, Blowing spray reduces visibility.

10 55-63
mph 89-102
kph 48-55
knots Whole Gale or Storm Trees are broken or uprooted, building damage is considerable.
Large waves (6-9 meters), overhanging crests, sea becomes white with foam, heavy rolling, reduced visibility.

11 64-72
mph 103-117
kph 56-63
knots Violent Storm Extensive widespread damage.
Large waves (9-14 meters), white foam, visibility further reduced.

12 73+
mph 118+kph 64+
knots Hurricane Extreme destruction, devastation.
Large waves over 14 meters, air filled with foam, sea white with foam and driving spray, little visibility.

My freezer is full of batteries from so called power outage alerts. Barely room for my beer steins. I heard you guys could be w/o power for up to 3 weeks. Oh the stink that will bring.
Texans game got moved to Monday too. Two Monday night football games, can't beat it!

Thanks yall!

My dad I guess said fuck it this time around. No windows boarded up. Just moved all the furniture into the garage. No one around here really has. And it looks like our neighborhood will be on the 'dirty side' of the storm.

Things will get interesting that's for sure. I just hope we don't lose power for a good while. But my parents house and surrounding are on the shittiest grid there is. It can be beautiful outside and they'll lose power.

This is a very interesting hurricane and the mood around the neigborhood as well. I know everyone in the hood is nervous but people are staying put and everyone is slowly doing their thing to protect their houses. many people don't even board up the window (me include since I have no truck to haul plywood).

I am just concern about the high gush wind and possible tornado associated with these storm. The storm will hit galveston at around 1-2 am when everyone is asleep (meaning those who are in Zone C who decided to stay).

Hey Couch, count on the power to be out for at least 2-3 days (if not more).

Stay safe!

Our power probably won't be out for that long. Although our power grid has always been really sensitive our power always comes back on before others. Strange.

Stay safe Tx, and everyone else. I'll probably be on the board most of the day myself. Not much to do really. Maybe go drive down the freeway and speed a little bit.

This thing is getting closer!,... I'm in Katy, near the Westpark toll,... and we are just waiting to see what happens,... tape on windows, tubs full of water, lots of tuna, candles, flashlights, drinking water, etc. I hope it doesn't get too nasty outside

Sitting on the highest block of land in the La Porte, Pasadena, Deer Park, etc.. area, bored as hell...
Parts of shore acres is already under water..
I don't expect the water to get into my house since it's the highest around here.
Lomax FTW.

Anyone living near me is invited to go skimboarding in a bit.

That's a good point. By now, shouldn't most homes have stockpiles of clean water, canned food, batteries, and candles? It just builds up from leftovers from past storms.

Everything is bigger in texas, this thing is huge, if the eye of the storm is in the middle to texas, the wind spand will cover all of texas. Yes, it also causes tornados warning in the lower part of Louisiana so be carefull.

Hope to be back after the ride out, this is my last post as I expect power to go out soon, the wind is picking up and making very scary noise. I am on the 45 southeast (the predicted path of Ike).

GL and hope to see everyone back here next week.

Houston are you out there?

4:20 am ET

The northwestern eyewall, the same part that slammed Mike Bettes, is about to rotate northward into downtown Houston. Expect wind gusts to range between 75 and 95 mph, perhaps even higher. OH SHIT!
I am afraid of what downtown is going to look like in a few hours...

3:25 am ET

There is 6 feet of water in the downtown Galveston County courthouse.

3:30 am ET

CenterPoint Energy is reporting 1.3 million customers are without power in Houston proper

7:05 am ET

Orange County, Texas, emergency management authorities report numerous people are stranded on their roofs or in attics due to high storm surge there. Orange County borders Sabine Lake

7:10 am ET

Widespread electricity outages are reported -- up to 2 million customers are without power. That amounts to about 5 million people. They could be without power for a week.
