Not sure why so many BMW owners are against more tech incorporation into cars.

Presumably this will use FaceID so if your phone is stolen, unless they can break into that, they won't be able to access your car.

I have a feeling you'd be totally screwed if you're out one day and your phone craps out. No communication, no car, no money.

Wait till BMW charges you an annual fee to use that Digital Key feature. Bloodsuckers.

Which will likely happen if Apple Wallet is used as a bridge between key and BMW but then it's just more steps to actually get your car unlocked vs. comfort access where all I need to do is place my hand on the handle to unlock and enter.

It's the world we're living in - technology focused, but it's not something I would use just out of sheer hassle.

You need to unlock your phone to drive with tesla. This makes it seem like you can walk up to the car with your phone in the pocket.

But my guess would be that it only unlocks your car, you would then need to use your phone to start driving the car. The article is just not clear on that.

I think I asked that on the Android post showing the technology and cunningly it seems to work with a flat phone. Obviously security is reduced, no Face ID perhaps, but I was told the NFC would work and open the car.

I could imagine this may play nicely for people who bought into the whole Apple ecosystem and uses the Apple Watch regularly.

Tap your wrist to unlock might be better than taking our your phone and doing Face ID

I have a smart watch and a smart phone. I can't think of a time in the last ten years that my phone has been dead mid day, let alone my watch AND phone.

I'm batting 1.000 so far and I doubt that will change.

I see it as this being offered as a standard and if you need physical keys, its a 1000$ option.

Ultimately it will be an option in case you decided to forego using your regular key.

For some people, leaving the house with just a phone, no wallet or car key is a feature worth having. But I doubt this will be mandatory and every car will come with a key regardless.

I have nothing against progress, but not all tech is useful or necessary. Kind of like Beta machines.

Just another thing to be hacked...not to mention Apple...they don't need any help taking over the world. I'll keep my key.

Well, my understanding is it will be an option to use, not required. Ya know, I haven't had very many problems with Apple CarPlay (ACP) in my M2. Works like a charm.
I do hope BMW does NOT decide to charge $300 for CarKey. THAT would be another rip-off. Also, while I'm here typing this, although I am an Apple user, I do believe ALL car manufacturers should provide for both ACP AND Android.

All well and good but how about they first bother to sort out keyless go properly so people aren't waking up to see their car gone from their driveway! How many years has this been going on for with little action from car manufacturers.

Ha - hopefully never. At least in the US, many more people in the BMW class use iPhones! Numbers are even higher if you look at Gen Z population too.
