I concur. While I do enjoy the normal Carrera look, the Porsche cars with wings have always felt right with the wing whereas many other cars look askew with them. The Touring is very cool, but I think the winged GT3 is just right.

I would have kept the 458 and not worry about mileage. As the last NA V8 Ferrari- i think they will hold their value well long term.

I had a 997 a few years back, IMHO, GT3 guys are just as anal with mileage. Not sure if the 991 crowd is different. Try not to listen to Rennlisters too much. Just enjoy the car. The GT3 wont depreciate as fast as your 458.

I doubt it. I mean eventually the very clean low mileage examples will go up. but the regular 'drivers' and cars that were actually used won't... at least not to a significant degree to justify hanging on to it.

if you want an investment you need a low production car like the speciale which is like $350k.

Gallardos, v10 R8s, V12 vantages are all hovering around 100k or below. You'd think an R8 with its v10 and gated shifter would be going for insane money but there are just too many available on the market.

thanks. yeah its possible the mileage may be as sensitive. but the GT community seems to be more car enthusiast based. there are literally no DIY's on things on ferrarichat. nobody tracks there cars.

yup. 458s are only depreciating in this market and will be for some time to come. better to pull that money out and sit on it to see how things play out. Like I said earlier I had the car for sale for an entire year... it was a huge headache trying to get it sold. the market is saturated.

458s are pretty reliable. But the thought of something expensive breaking was always in the back of my head. The car was 10 years old, and even if you don't drive much, hoses, seals, batteries just wear out. There is no argument that a new Porsche is more reliable than a 10 year old Italian and I can beat on it hard without worrying. After having multiple M3s, a GTR, and a 458 there is no questions that germans have the best engineering. And then theres the fact the car sits like a 4x4 stock with the wheelgap, once you eliminate it the car has such a long nose it scrapes easily. the gt3 sits clean from the factory and has excellent ground clearance thanks to the short front overhang

the Ferrari is a great car and it treated me well. I enjoyed it and scratching 'owning a Ferrari' off my bucket list. But the huge flaw is no manual.

Not a Ferrari fan, but that's a beautiful car. I couldn't live with the mileage anxiety, so hopefully you'll get something next that you can just get in, drive and not worry about.

How can you not be a Ferrari fan? Price and ownership experience is one thing but there’s no doubt that the cars themselves are incredible.

people have their reasons. they send ringers to track tests. or multiple vehicles, one setup for track, one setup for acceleration, etc. They routinely overstate power figures (for instance the new GT3 puts the same power to the ground as the 458 on a dyno, but Ferrari rates their engine as having 70 more hp). Ferrari does not take their cars to the nurburgring for track times, etc. They tried to blacklist people for modifying their cars how they want (deadmau5 wrapping his speciale with the poptart cat vinyl)

that said there is no doubt a lot of emotional draw to the car. the brand image is very powerful. seeing the prancing horse badge and the little plaque saying '16 formula one world titles' definitely makes you feel something.

Boxster Spyder is 75% of a speedster for something like 1/3 of the price. I have a couple friends with or have speedsters coming, and they are stunning - should be for 300-400k. Other than the Boxster Spyder, not many cars I would want to own that are drop tops.

That said, a GT3 with the 6 speed is the way to go.

I'll say this ...... hmmmmm... I am not a fan of their boy racer interiors. The dash anyways, basically classless and the cars are all huge, nothing small and nimble. Cannot believe I am saying this but i'd take a 911 before a ferrari assuming I cannot sell either one. The 488 is my favourite though, and by a wide margin.

Also not the biggest Ferrari fan, but there are a few models that I’d be interested in (mostly the special stuff like the Scud, Speciale, Pista and F12 TdF).

To clarify, not a mad fan of any exotics. I appreciate the engineering but truth be told, they are unwieldly on the road and at the track, even a basic formula car will smoke em for 30% of the price.

Even the big rear wings etc, i am not crazy about. If I had to absolutely splash out, honestly I would have a nice drop top and a GT3 Touring.

I’m actually planning to buy a 458 next year, lol. So we’re in opposite places right now. But i do appreciate being able to read your ownership experiences, particularly the maintenance costs.

You’ll love the GT3. I’d recommend trying out the 997 RS as well as the 991.2 to see which you like better. They are, IMO, the peak of Porsche’s manual 911 game but in different ways. The 991 being the ultimate performer while the 997 is the ultimate ‘analog’ driver’s car that still offers modern levels of performance.
