Looks like they just straight got rid of the “mid-tier” LED Headlights with cornering lights on the 3-series.

So is it now only either the hideous 320i lease special looking ones or the Icon Adaptive LED Headlights with Laserlights?

Interesting decision.

That is a surprise. I thought it is only coming to 440 coupe. I guess they did it to all 382 HP engines.

All it means you are not able to turn vehicle auto stop function off - there is no button.
Need to look for 2020 model in stock.

Never like the removal of options even if it cost extra. I am disappointed in the removal of the plum brown trim from the M5. I was planning on ordering with the turtufo leather. I wonder if this is still available through the individual program.

Found out yesterday that they removed soft close doors on the X5.

The only exception in the article is the M2C, which we know simply doesn't have a corresponding M2 right now and has an EOP date of 6/21, but this mentions replacing the competition models for the M8, M5, X3M, and X4M.
Personally I prefer all competition models to be stand alone models. Makes it feel that much more special than just a package ad on. But I'm sure they have their analytics that made them change it back to package ad on.

I welcome the change personally.

I think when the Competition models were separate, the dealer allocations for C vs non-C were separate as well, so if you wanted a non-Comp M and all the dealer had were Comp allocations, the dealer was out of luck unless they try to swap for one.

With this change, there is more flexibility for the dealers and a greater chance of us consumers getting allocations.

My FIL just bought a new M5 several months ago. He said the dealers don't want the M5 in a comp. no ones really buying the allotments they have. They're too "rough riding" is what they told him they've heard.

Same and dealer said removed unless added back. I hope not as wanted it when I ordered late July.

Seems like a big blow to the X7 40i, stripping it down of most Lux items and including some in packages while the rest totally removed.

Feels like 2020 was a good bmw year.
For the X7 40i at Least.

I can't seem to find it in the X5M or X6M either. I hope I am wrong but if this is the case, it is a deal breaker for me. Wtf BMW.

I interpreted it to mean that they’re ditching the base entry-level headlights and making the mid-tier LED lights the new standard equipment. It would be only that one and the optional laser lights.

Are you kidding me????
The auto stop is the most annoying thing. I wish I could turn that thing off forever, like I did in my M2C.

It is the case. I was told by our product rep that it was removed due to cost savings. It was part of the executive pack on 2020 models. Gone on the 2021.

The X4 loses Merino leather options after being offered for the last two years, and the new 4 Coupe loses Merino after being offered on the last-gen model for several years. Is BMWNA giving up its "more upscale" differentiation strategy for the 4 vs the 3?

Whether you buy one of these models rests on you being able to order soft-close doors? Really?

Due to the mild hybrid, you won't notice start/stop a lot anymore, if at all.

Plus if you're in Sport mode, it will still deactivate it.

It is a standalone option for 2021. I like that, as I would have preferred the Nappa leather and cooling on my 540i without the massage function.

Overall this all looks like a reshuffling allowing more flexibility to pick individual options rather than expensive packages, without any significant increase in overall pricing for the same configurations year over year. I see it on the 3-series in particular, which allows for a better equipped configuration under $50k without forcing options like HUD and a heated steering wheel to select others. I assume this is a response to dealer demand to place more competitively optioned cars in inventory at lower price points.

Thanks. Bummer as I ordered my 2021 5 Series think I was getting it with Luxury package and now I am not. Wish BMW would just keep things similar or worst case have the configurator updated, as soon as you can order a new model. That would take the guess work right out of it. Can’t figure out why configurator is updated so late.

The BMW builder already shows the removal of the X5MC as a standalone model. It still shows soft-close doors on the executive package.
