Nope. I need the Luxury in any SUV I may consider. I have no plan nor desire to drive up mountains or off road. But that's me.

I understand but this will put the Bro Dozers to shame.

Yes because the ones who could afford it are too busy shopping on Rodeo drive and yes it's a spectacular off roader.

There's a G 63 AMG rolling around near me... thing is absolutely disgusting. Black with some sort of red sport striping, not sure if thats a special package or what. Exactly how rich do you have to be to own a $160k truck!? There's also a BRABUS one that I've seen at Roseville Galleria Mall on occasion.

I like them a lot for their brutalist, boxy, old school style. Would definitely consider getting a used "base model" and enjoying it for for what it really is.

Is there a particular range of years that are considered good buys used? As in great long term reliability / no common massive repairs?

Cars and trucks that do not serve the purpose for which they were designed originally really annoy me. Things like slammed trucks, trucks with low-pro tires and ridiculous wheels, even slammed sportscars that can't handle driving aggressively, etc.

The platform was just updated in 2019 or 2020. Clearly a current model will be best from a reliability and longevity point of view. Same as for any other pre-owned vehicle.

Before 2019, buy the newest and lowest mileage vehicle possible, with the most options, that fits your budget.

G-Wagens are known to rust like a bucket, as in rust bucket. Particularly the windshield lower corners.

The 4x4^2 system is pretty fly, with portal gear axles. The AMG G63 and G65 with 4x4^2 are the, or among the, highest end models.

While the G wagon is designed to be an off roader, it is also designed to be a douchey looking mall crawler. Same goes for the Range Rover.

So in a way, I would say it is used for the purpose it was designed.

There are only 10 limited edition v12's.

I test drove the G500 and it was über comfortable. Rides better than anything other 'G' series they make.

You're right though by the time you modify it or go top end you could get yourself something else that you don't need to touch out of the box.

Iirc when the new model came out last year, there were ~$50k markups on these babies. Not sure if the frenzy is still going.

I believe the new model is now independent front suspension to cater to road manners seeing as most people don’t drive them off road and need a solid front axle. It’s mostly a normal luxury car.

People can bitch about others dailying a gwag but what’s the difference with dailying a $150k S class or a $400k rolls? Same theory. Drive what makes you happy.

When Doug Demuro drove one he commented that because of the upright nature that things reflect across the car. Like a car would pass him on the right and it would reflect in his drivers side window. That kind of thing would drive me crazy
