A lot of people get butt-hurt when a Japanese car is faster, or just as fast, as their Euro machinery. Therefore they have to take a knock at Japanese engineering even though they couldn't engineer a floor mat for their life.
I don't like the GTR; I don't like how heavy it is, the way Nissan supposedly made it mod-unfriendly (warranty-wise), the looks, or Nurburgring contraversy. But it is still going to be faster than most cars out there stock. I'll share my GTR story - I saw my first one in April, a red one in downtown San Diego. I was eating at the Hard Rock Hotel before heading to a Padres game. The next weekend there was an article on a red GTR in the newspaper. As much as I didn't like it, it gathered my interest, and a lot of passers-by. That said... I don't think I would get an M3 either. Edit: why are people bringing up that stupid problem about Nissan voiding the guy on NAGTROC's warranty? The guy probably abused the sh*t out of his car.

Eh, I guess that could be argued. I personally don't think the M3 should even be mentioned in the same sentence as the GTR, let alone the same thread (as in why da f*ck is it brought up in every GTR thread like this one). I just think the GTR is a more unique, eye catching, better-performing car than the M3. And I love the M3.

i wouldnt even consider the M3 with DCT. what with all the shifting problems it has. and its so much slower than the GTR. its a complete no brainer unless you absolutely love the look of a 3 series, which is plain boring in the sea of other 3 series with lesser engines.
and the GTR interior looks like it came from a video game? which video game are you guys referring to? |

First time I saw around my block, I was pulling off to make a right onto a main street and I saw a black coupe that I thought to be a Z. I thought to myself and turned around again to take another look because it was TOO BIG to be a Z. By the time I 180 my head I was only able to catch the rear quarter, and it was gone.

The only problem with the GT-R is 9/10 people don't even know what it is. True conversation between me and my wife over the weekend: Me: "Look at that black car over there." Wife: "What's that? It's ugly." Me: "It's a $70k Nissan GT-R that is VERY fast." Wife: "I don't care how fast it is, it's ugly and you'd have to be crazy to pay that much for that car." It is a very fast car, but she's right, it is U-G-L-Y. Come on, you actually think anyone at a Lexus dealership is going to know anything about real cars? Lexus' are BMWs for women. For those who think the M-DCT is bad, check this out: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=177088 There's supposed to be a software update so you don't have the down shifting issue under high g-loads. Skierman - did you get you software update yet?

BTW, LOL at the Lexus = BMW for women comment. Very nice. My dad has a T-shirt that says "This is your brain (followed by a BMW roundel)" the next line says "this is your brain on drugs (followed by a Lexus symbol). Kinda funny.

For me, in the price range it is in I would be comparing the Z06 to the GTR. If I wanted the car for drag racing, I would get the Z06; If I wanted a great track car I would get the GTR; If I wanted a great luxury ride/performance machine I would get the M3/CTS-V/C63 AMG; If I wanted a greater emphasis on luxury in luxury/performance I would get the Lexus IS-F; and finally, if I was rich, I would look at the Porsche.
And with cars like the Pontiac G8, Camaro SS, and the Challenger giving ~400 hp for around $30,000-$40,000 they are going to give some real competition to those looking at the 335i, Evo, etc. It's a nice time to buy a car with all this selection! |

I got to drive the GT-R
It is big, but it doesn't drive like a big car, but it really likes to be in a very small specific RPM to really build power. It does handle very well. Technically I like. It's looks don't wow me. Same with the new M3.

Man, just with some of the logic the people use in this thread shows how butthurt they really are. Take it from me, I am an absolute BMW fanatic, a European car fanatic at that. And, I've driven both cars. I'm a huge fan of the M3, ever since they day it came out. The car looks great, and the response any "M" car always gives you is amazing. It really is a great driving experience.
I'm not in the tuner scene much at all, so, I never really did any research of was hyped up on the GTR. I saw them on covers, I saw people raving, but nothing really ever intrigued me. My buddy calls me up one day, and picks me up so check his friends new R35. Any car enthusiast wouldn't turn down the offer, I wasn't pumped, but I was excited yet to see a new car. My thoughts, complaints, stubbornness, were instantly changed once I was driven in that car... It is an absolute MONSTER. The feedback is unreal, the motor will make your stomach not, and everyone at a freaking stop light doesn't even know the light turned green. Just the fact that I'm still a European car fanatic to this day, but I give that GTR every bit of respect it deserves, Nissan hit a home run with that car. It will be a legend, just like it's older brother.

If it's 'presence' you are looking for, the GT-R is definitely an eye turner. I love watching M3 owners gather up in a GT-R thread about how ugly, how it costs too much, or how it is too expensive. Theres at least 3 in every GT-R thread. And god, shut up about the brand already. If you want to impress people with the brand of your car, I think you might be in the wrong community. This is an enthusiast forum, not a personal issues forum. |
