After seeing their horrid Avalon front "styling", almost anything else looks acceptable.

I'm a truck guy and think it's still hideous for reasons you said.

What truck do you drive? I literally cannot think of a truck in this category that doesn't have a massive grille, for like the past 15 years.

I'm patiently waiting for the full unveil because I'd probably get a Platinum level Tundra vs a TRD Pro, so the grille would be different but not the size. Still though, I see it as very much related to the 4Runner and Tacoma.

It’s all about making trucks look bigger for compensation. Also makes fat people looks smaller.

All trucks have big grilles, but this one looks like a weird gaping maw. It's not just the size, it's the bizarre design. Chevy is guilty of this too, especially their HD trucks. Awful.

I've had a K5 Jimmy, 99 Ranger, 02 F-250 diesel, and currently a 2016 F-150 and 04 Suburban.

Some interior pics from a lower end model. Looks like quite a nice upgrade from the previous gen, but still things we want like buttons for climate controls.

There's definitely a few minutes of entertainment if you search google images for "BMW grille meme".

"If you had a small wiener you would need a big truck too!"

That was on bumper stickers a friend had made then clandestinely put on some "monster" trucks.

As for the Tundra, I read an article on a woman who was recently given the title of world biggest mouth. I think Toyota is trying to out do it. The front grill/bumper is fugly.

They should sell the cheaper version of the Land Cruiser in the US. I could see that being a successful market for them and get rid of some of the cruddy filler models they have now. Design of the Tundra is cool, never been a fan of the model though. I feel like with large trucks, you can't really beat Ford or Chevy in A LOT of ways. Compact trucks seem to be Toyota's bread and butter, looking at historical trends at least.

The recent Toyota products have been killer. Suprised at the 21mpg figure- could be due to the tires? Its a hybrid!

Agree if you mean killer in terms of looks, otherwise Toyota did typical Toyota sloppy engineering:
  • Used NiMH battery instead of Li-ion
  • Positioned the battery beneath the rear seat reducing much-needed in a pickup storage area, F150 hybrid battery placed between the frame rails keeping passenger space and cargo area uncompromised while lowering center of gravity)
  • Only offers 120V plugs... F150 offers 240v 30A connectors
  • No on-board generator like 7.2 kW Pro Power Onboard for F150
  • 21 MPG for hybrid is nothing to be proud of... Ford rated at 24 MPG
  • All this while being more expensive than F150...

No excuses for a company that has been building hybrids pretty much longer than anybody else...

I agree. All great points. Ford also has its fair share of issues

I watched an interview with the lead engineer on the new Tundra. Major focus on the hybrid was to add torque. He said the hybrid has the torque (583 ft. lb) of a diesel.

I expected better MPG's also.
