I drove a 2014 Nissan Maxima for a while. I used to roll out of the car because it was so low to the ground. Sucks for tall people. My truck.. I watched four RATHER large family members roll out of an i3. When I say large, it was all horizontal. When in vehicle, it had a 3.5” drop…. I believe they were mitigating said benefits of your circumstances…

The bigger question is, does your husbands embarrassment give you a sense of satisfaction?
Not really.
It took a boatload of research before choosing the i3.
I was in the market for a new car and searching. I was going to go with a Lexus 300NT

THEN

A few months back we had a state wide gas shortage due a ransomware attack. Everyone panicked, went the the gas stations at the same time and drained the state.

:
Time to make the leap and supplement the household with (1) electric car.

Tesla: too expensive. Who's going to work on it when it breaks? I was scare of the cost to own one.

Nissan Leaf: no comment. Everyone agrees, right?

Chevy Volt: it's a Chevy/ GM vehicle… NEEEXT

BMW i3: it's a beemer. High maintenance keep researching.

Volkswagen E Gulf. Boring sucky looking

Hyundai Ioniq: can't be seen in a Hyundai. A feeling left over from their cheap cars in the 90s.

Mustang Mach E…. Too new. Let the recalls rip.

It all boiled down to test driving all of them…

i3 won.

The in/out height of our old Dakotas was one of my favorite things about them, and one of the first things that I noticed about my i3.

Please inform your husband that this "little gay electric car" owner was not amused about his i3 characterization.....

AFAIK, they [Nissan Leaf] are still using air-cooled battery packs that degrade when parked on hot asphalt (desert areas) or are subjected to frequent Level 3 fast charging. Our regional electric monopoly bought a small fleet of them, and the few of their employees that I've spoken with said that they make no heat in the winter and their experiences with the cars left them with negative perceptions of EV's in general.

I don't know about the current VW/Audi/Porsche stuff, but I also spoke with an early VW e-Golf owner who carried an OBD-II scan tool to monitor the battery temperatures because they also allegedly used an air-cooled battery pack and he was paranoid.

In case you have not been to one yet, there are EV car show events all over the country coming up in a month or so, as part of National Drive Electric Week:

https://driveelectricweek.org/

My DW and I took both of our cars (hers is a Kia Niro EV) to four local events back in 2019, and it is a great way to gain insights into the competition's offerings from people who actually own/drive them daily. Oh, and also amaze a few fellow i3 owners when you show them how to properly hang their charging port dust cover on the inside of the charging door.....

Everyone (myself included) seems to try hanging the dust cover on the tab by the bottom edge, and discovers that it doesn't mate properly. If you look at the *top* of the cap (by the finger grip) from the bottom, you will see the opening that BMW included for mating with the hanging tab on the door.....

Not being aware of how to properly hang the dust cover on the charger door is one of the biggest gripes of several i3 owners that I've met, and it really isn't obvious. Most try to hang it by the bottom lip, where it sticks up above the top of the door and falls off with the slightest bump or wind gust. Until I saw the secret in another forum, I had given up on the hook and just draped the cap over the door by its tether.

Consider this a credit to BMW engineering when one of the biggest i3 owner gripes is hanging the charger port dust cover!

Makes sense if charging long term outdoors, don't want the plastic rubbing on your fender.

Gas caps have a very similar design but the EV version is more needed.

I don't know but I still get a chuckle thinking about the husband saying "food bitch". Imagine he says that and then they cram themselves into the Lego block car.

Okay am I the only one bothered by what's going on here with the debris?

Pretty sure the likes of Sedan_Clan and others probably have an eye twitch going on with this.

You would be surprised at how much room there is in an i3. I can comfortably wear my helmet in the driver's seat...with headroom to spare!

For comparison, I actually cracked a T-top in a first gen Toyauto MR2 with my helmet, can barely sit upright in my Audi, and drove two laps of Monticello Motor Club with my head cocked 90 degrees sideways in one of their Cadillac CTS-V's.....

A pitfall of living in the woods, with undeveloped wooded county parkland and 7,000+ acres of state forest as my neighbors. I'm constantly picking leaves and tree spinner thingies out of the drip trays on all of our vehicles.....

Sounds nice living that close to nature, even with the minor annoyances. Of course it may be different if I had to deal with it day in and day out (but I don't think so, lol).

I think you're a lucky guy. Luck probably doesn't have much to do with it.
