By the way, again unless in a major metro area, he should be prepared to ship (look into how to box and ship, and be ready for some high shipping costs), or plan to meet up somewhere.

I had a 800 mile trip for other reasons once, and tacked on another 300 to deliver wheels instead of shipping and taking risk of damage, etc. Another set I sold to a guy who met me 100 miles from my house and he shipped them to his home (he was vacationing when we met). Another time I drove from Lex KY to Philadelphia for wheels and then to Hartford for tires, and back home to Lex. Sometimes the deal and circumstances work to do that, and the more flexible buyer and seller are, the better chances of a good sale. A great meeting place is a track during a DE event, or SCCA races, if either party is into that.

I always lived in dinky towns with few similar cars, so had to deal with distance to buy or sell wheels.

Yeah, he's in Missouri with me, so we have to ship everywhere.

My buddy relocated to Florida and sold his P car winter set on 6 Speed marketplace. Also list in your exact 6 speed forum.

I think an M5 would be perfect for your needs.

No help with the question at hand, but I’ve used UPS to ship expensive wheels in the past. With a high insurance value, they custom boxed everything at no additional cost. Boxing wheels is a big pain, so well received!

For sure. I've shipped many sets of wheels, and given the proper shipping money will use UPS with their shipping every time because of the guarantee. Looking at the way they box things, I'm very surprised they offer such a guarantee, as it's never done right IMO, but if they want to take the chance, so be it. The only thing that sucks about it is that even if you get a preferred rate, as I do, you still have to pay retail to get their guarantee.

When I sold my 928S 'normal' moonface alloys I used the official Porsche Club ad site here in their magazine and sold them within 2 weeks of putting the ad in. Replaced them with the later forged S4 ones with wider rear wheels and the official wide track rear spacers.

Thanks for the info.

I always wanted a blue 928 with the standard wheels, like the first picture below. But after seeing this other set of wheels on a 928, I'm afraid I'd have to have those.

Those at the bottom are non standard wheels and of course the 5 spoke GTS wheels look nice. The only thing is the moonface ones smooth out the airflow better along the sides at high speed..I also have the much lighter GTS 'tear drop' door mirrors

I still can't get my boss to give me the exact specs and invoice. Rich people, you know, they can't be bothered.

Know only too well haha. My fresh tyre has arrived and with another tyre I have will be removing the rears to take to the fitter and that's only to wheel car out of garage as the old tyres collapsed with cracks all over them.

I'd avoid craigslist - more likely to draw lowlifes looking for trouble, especially in a smaller town. Porsche specific sites would seem the best bet; does the local PCA have a newsletter or FB page?

I can't imagine anyone buying $15,000 wheels off of Craigslist, so I agree, I won't post them there. I have the same feelings about Facebook. It's the wrong type of crowd IMO.

I'm sure he's not part of any local Porsche group, and I'm not going to join on his behalf just to sell these wheels. Maybe he'll never get the time to send me the specs and I won't need to deal with it. haha

Some pics of the work I'm doing to get it back on the road showing the widetrack spacers and sprucing up underneath before refitting wheel. Now doing the other side, you'll notice the wider J rim S4 rear wheel.

I only asked because they are very hard to find here with a manual transmission in good condition. If they are in good condition they want an arm and a leg . I always liked them, I think it`s a very cool car with a V8.

The clutch pedal was tough work in traffic with the one I tried a hard press and the dog leg first gear is awkward.

The only 928 I ever drove was a manual, and even though I'm a die-hard manual guy, I didn't like it. If I had a 928, which is a true GT, it'd be an auto for sure.

Mine is a '83 model which has the 3-speed box. After doing the tires I'm going to try and fire her up.
