I gave her the "try it for a month, before you decide" talk today. She's in the middle of renovating our backyard and continues to buy art for the house, so she's not exactly in a position to call shots.

We have done well with IKEA mattresses.

Put a topper on an uncomfortable coil+box spring, it makes a difference.

We've bought McRoskey mattresses in San Francisco since the 1980s. Our current mattress was bought in 1995, and it's still going strong. They've been making mattresses since 1899.

The last guys we had pick up a mattress for us were shown down into the basement where McRoskey makes their own springs. It's quite the place. Our salesman was in his mid-80s and regaled us with the trip he made with his mother up the Mekong River back in the 1920s.

Prices have gone totally insane, however. You know, San Francisco. Still, buy the right mattress, at least from them, and you'll likely not buy another one for many decades.

^We are headed to San Fran next month. Wife wants to show our boys where she grew up (santa cruz).

Anyway, night #2, I really like this mattress - has a hotel feel, firm but springy, but wife says too firm. So I contacted Saatva, they are actually going to send a topper for free today to help my wife with the break in period. They said since the mattresses are made to order they arrive a bit firm, but the topper should help with the break in period.

I'm impressed with the customer service live chat being so responsive.

If this topper doesnt help, we'll try their latex mattress.

Happy wife happy ________ you know

A few weeks in and i no longer wake up at night and either my wife isn't snoring or I sleep through it. I look forward to getting into bed.

The company says it will continue to break in and soften a little which is fine - especially for the missus who prefers a soft bed.

I went through about 4 mattresses with their free trail periods before finally settling on the DreamCloud Premier Rest mattress.

From their website:

With a taller, 16” profile. Transformative, comfort-forward features. And its distinguishing characteristic - a beautiful cashmere Pillow Top.

https://www.dreamcloudsleep.com/rest-mattress

You can scroll down the page to see how this thing is constructed. I've been really happy with it with both back and neck surgeries. However, we are all different and what works for me might not work for you.

Have had my ultra plush Stearns & Foster Lux Cassatt for almost 1.5 years and really like it, very comfortable. I’m moving next month and decided to leave it for my niece and finally trying a Tempurpedic. Just bought a Luxe Adapt with the massaging base with the Memorial Day sale this weekend. It feels different than the traditional mattresses I’ve had all my life and it’ll take some getting used to.

Update: returned the Lux Firm and got Firm instead. Have never slept better. I close my eyes and wake up and it's morning.

We currently have a Leaf and Loom foam mattress which we have enjoyed for almost 7 years. The greatest thing about it is you absolutely cannot feel another person's movements in the bed. But is a bit squishy and you sink in and there is zero edge support.

The time is approaching for a new mattress. We are considering getting the Saatva, which is Loom and Leaf's sister company's hybrid innerspring. However, on a recent road trip we slept on a Marriott Artesia HD mattress. Perhaps the most comfortable I have ever experienced for a single night. I am researching cost and availability.

Considering we buy a new mattress every 2 yrs, I'd say we are safe from those nasty things

Yup, this. We spend about 1/3 of our life in bed and often go cheap. I'm guilty of that. We bought a new Sealy Platinum HD Queen a few years back, had it for about 6 months and loved it, moved it to the spare room and got a King Size bed, Casper. We've had it for about 3 years now....it's ok but not great. We're both over 60 now and I think it's time to take the plunge and get the right mattress. I hate shopping for mattresses, it's kind of a bizarre experience lying on 10 different beds for a few minutes to make a commitment. I don't mind spending the money but don't want to buy the wrong mattress. Ugh.

Mattress shopping is the worst. I personally really liked the Purple mattress and this Saatva Firm of course I like - very good customer service as well.

Been down this path with the Saatva. Had the firm, both of us found it too firm. Ditched it after five years and went with the lux firm. Better but still too firm so it is in our guest room and for the new house we went with king Stearns & Foster pillow top, very happy with it! Guess as we approach 60 (I'll be 59 next week) we have realized we need a bit more comfort than firmness.

Wow... the prices on those. I suppose if you add up all the money we have spent on mattresses over the years, something like that might actually make financial sense.

Rather than start a new thread I thought I’d ask this here because it’s related. I have Costco’s Kirkland bedsheets and so far they’re my favorite of any I’ve tried. Before I pick up a few more sets, does anyone have recommendations for bedsheets in the same price range?

Thanks! I figured. They’re great sheets. Just thought I’d ask.

How does it feel compared to cotton?
Better. More breathable but cozier at the same time. Friends of ours had them stayed at their house - loved them, deal done.
