I’m sorry. I feel like I killed vreihen16 ’s thread with my two years of FML. It wasn’t my intention. Let’s lighten it up and get some responses. Happy 4th everyone.
Alfisti How did you screw up your pool?

I guess that means you wish you had a pool? Me too. I miss my pool, but that takes us back to my 2 years so we’ll leave that alone

From 2015 through this year I’ve had countless family members pass away. I’ve mentioned here that my cousin from Queens NY was murdered back in 2018 when she was pushed in front of a subway in Brooklyn. Her father, as you can expect, was devastated. Sadly, he just passed 4-5 weeks ago but at least he gets to be with his little girl for eternity.

Well, now you do have a FML moment, albeit a silly one. I fixed where I quoted you, only to realize you quoted me again. Duh! Go fix it! Lol.

Not looking for a pity party but this thread made me think about what I've endured over the past 10 years.
The major bad: Diagnosed with stage 3b colon cancer Dec. 2012. Surgery and chemo for 6 months. To add insult to injury, kidney stone on New Years 2013 days after my cancer surgery. Diagnosed with stage 0 appendix cancer July 2016. Had complications from the surgery that lasted 3 months where I felt my gut was kicked in every day. Cancer chase that started March of 2017 where my tumor markers have shot up ever since triggering multiple scopes/scans. Since my first diagnosis in Dec. 2012, I've had 16 CT scans and 5 PET scans. Doc tells me it's a matter of when not if I get cancer back. To add a ray of sunshine to this, my tumor marker plummeted with my recent check up so it appears my doc may be wrong. Diagnosed with an aneurism in my aorta which I could drop dead if it bursts for any reason. And to boot, I have high blood pressure now; most likely due to all the stress I've been under with my divorce and the challenges with what my ex has been doing with our daughter. The above is a good lead in to the divorce. Ex abandoned me while I was dealing with issues from the second cancer while we were married. Decided going clubbing and hanging out with friends were more important. She also started her plan with alienating our daughter from me. Divorce was a nightmare. I got raked over the coals as we all know how fair family law/court is for men. I got so screwed the mediator (female) saw how badly I was getting screwed and did her little part to help me out by not bringing to light their math error which saved me a couple grand. Nice but still a drop in the bucket with the jackpot she got out of me for only 6 years of marriage on paper. Daughter was being affected by the tension and issues with the separation/divorce. Overnight she didn't want to be around me and physically attacked me twice. Wanted to get our daughter into counseling, ex refused. Took me a solid year of working hard to repair the damage ex caused with my relationship with my daughter. Two wonderful people that were my rock and support while dealing with my cancer passed away from their own cancer. The less major bad: An employer puts me on plan for not meeting my quota even though it was out of my control. A partner committed ethical fraud and violated out partner agreement by dual bidding an opportunity where they were also working with a competitor. We lost due to them stacking the winning bid and I got punished because I missed my quota by the amount this deal would have filled the gap. Meanwhile, upper management was still hob knobbing with the executives at said unethical partner after I get put on plan. I did leave this company on my terms. Another company I worked for stiffed me out of $20k in compensation due to us (sales team) accommodating a request from our VP to recode how we were putting an order in for a solution. When we did that, it changed the crediting of margin putting us below the threshold that disqualified us for the $20k bonus. Got the run around for 6 months until said VP was leaving the company and on his way out denied our appeal for the compensation. My Toyota had three deer strike incidents in a year. One didn't impact the Toyota but is being counted because the bike I had on my bike rack behind the car was impacted by the deer. The other two caused damage to the passenger rear quarter panel/door and the whole front right corner of the car. Deer strike on my 135i smashing up the front end of the car. Idiot female driver backs into my 848 parked behind her knocking it over. This started the long ordeal of first getting the insurance company covering the car she was driving to own up to liability. The reason why I said it hat way is because the car belongs to her mother who lives in Georgia where the car is registered. Not only that, the driver wasn't listed as an authorized driver and the car was not insured to be driven out of state. Apparently, the driver has had the car out of Georgia for months. The admission of liability took a month. Then the battle for them to cover all the costs associated with the repairs ensues. Took almost a year before I got my bike back and only after paying $200 out of my own pocket to cover the gap in payments that the insurance company refused to pay. I'm sure there are other FML crap I've dealt with in the 10 years. As I type all of this, I'm a little amazed I'm still standing. It's not been all bad. I've had some blessings along the way. Some amazing people stepped up in my time of need to provide support. A decent quality of life and working for an amazing employer. I also know there are others that have had it much worse than me. |

Again, will sound trivial, 'cos it is!
I have pleated filters, not a sand filter so you cannot back wash, you have to soak the filters in this mixture overnight then rinse them. To do so, naturally you need to turn the pump off. So i did just that, pulled the system apart and soaked overnight. I wake at 7am to a text from the neighbor "chief, there's a pool in my yard"...... like faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrk. Turns out even when you press OFF, the pump will re-engage if a new session starts. I have a variable speed pump and run it from 6am to 10pm, whole idea is to extend it's life right. So at 6am, regardless of me turning it off, she engaged. Lost about 8,000 litres dammit. But I have a real FML, even if it is my own doing. Myself, wife and kids are booked to go to OZ in December but it is just not going to happen. My mother is super, super covid cautious (she has about 7 co-morbilities) so I may try and go alone as it is less risky for her. Still, her not seeing the boys now for over 2 years is a very, very tough scene. |

Being in SoCal, it was Disneyland for me. Loved going as a kid and as a teenager. Loved the crowds and the rides and the excitement. When I was older (early 30s) I took my kids and enjoyed it through their eyes. Haven't been for many years now and it's going to stay that way. Hate crowds, hate the rides, hate the excitement. Have officially become an old man, and I like it.

The second-worse day of my life was as a kid at Disney World. Not sharing any details, except to say that getting hit with the shock paddles while awake *twice* at the hospital was the worst day.....

What's your water bill look like? I know they are insanely water intensive.
My mom's husband (I can't call him stepdad since they didn't start dating until my 20's) has a 30 acre avocado farm just outside of Escondido. The last time I visited back in 2015 he said the month before they had a $7k water bill just for one month. Granted, I'm sure you know this, only about 2/3rds only produce at one time because they have to top the trees and such. |
