A great figure in modern history, she will be missed. I don't think Charles will be much of a King, he has left a trail of messes that his mother had to deal with. Perhaps his greatest task will be putting Andrew in exile. I hope that William and Kate are who they appear to be, they seem to be a loving family.

RIP - remarkable woman who led an amazing life - I suspect she did what she could given the constraints placed on her.

If they were going to keep the royals, they should have skipped Charles and went straight to William...

This is really a big part of history that we are living and experiencing right now. She was probably the most gracious leader of any country throughout the last century. It is sad that she has passed away, but having a King in power for the first time in my life is quite exciting. Furthermore, there may not be a Queen of the Monarchy for the next 100 years.

RIP Queen Elizabeth.

God Bless the King.

Seriously. We once drove through Detroit to London, ONT. What a slow, boring slog that was. Nice smooth and wide road with little traffic, but a 100KPH limit. Ugh.

What did you think of Charles' speech on 9/9 ?

To listen to how he refers to his parents and the moments he pauses and shifts his gaze away.

The Queen her whole life was a very modern women. Even in the past few years the colors she wore, the lime green outfit. How she handled her (grand) children and their spouses.

To compare the Royals to how our Presidents behave and particularly the recent children and spouses of out recent President's is very telling. disappointing.

This moment where Queen Elizabeth II had the Guards play the Star Spangled Banner after 9/11 was very touching and still something I remember living through the attacks as a kid.

For those interested, here are the 2 videos from today relating to Charles III being proclaimed King at St. James Palace.

From the BBC:
Quote:
Charles III swore an oath as he was proclaimed as King at a ceremony at St James's Palace.

Charles became king immediately following the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II, but a historic meeting formally confirmed his role on Saturday.

The Accession Council, a body made up of senior politicians, judges and officials, proclaimed him as the monarch in the State Apartments.

It is the first time the historic ceremony has been televised.
Charles III swears oath:

I thought it unfortunate that at some sporting events this weekend, after the Star-spangled Banner was played, there was also a tribute to the Queen's passing.

I understand, we revolted in 1776. But we can still be respectful of the loss of life, and what she means to our fellow humans across the pond. There is no need to be yelling words I can CLEARLY read, in an effort to disgrace the queen, and in doing so disgrace yourself.

Absolutely, the Queen has always been a friend of ours but people will be people and choose to interject their low IQ opinions on everything.

The English did it to us plenty of times and we've done it to them.

You'll never get rid of the stupid.

Today, the coffin of Queen Elizabeth II was taken from Holyrood Palace (where it has been overnight) down the road to St Giles' Cathedral.

During the procession, the King, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward walked behind the hearse.

You can watch the procession from this afternoon below.

Heard that the coffin is closed at the ceremony of laying out for saying the last good bye.
With all respect for the dead queen and maybe her last look, but just saying good bye to the front of a wooden case won't make me come out for traveling to London.

What model BMWs are being used in some of the processions (if that is the term for the movement of the Queen from place to place)? Some look like X5 or X6 and some like 7-series, but they have the older grilles so not sure. Was surprised to see them, but apparently the hearse is a stretched Mercedes.

Edit: This may have just been transporting the King et al to the ceremony in N Ireland. I’m not watching - my wife is and asked the question.

In the Kings' visit to Northern Ireland today, a lovely 2012 F02 750Li High Security version was used. It's only done 18,000 miles.
There was also a G05 X5 used for security / leading car.

In terms of movements in Great Britain for the rest of the Royal family, it's just the usual Range Rovers for security staff, Bentley's and Audi's for the Royal family members (since there is an agreement between The Royal Household and Audi).

The 2002 Bentley State Limousine has been used to carry Princess Anne (mostly) to various places in Scotland. This car was a gift from Bentley to The Queen in 2002. I think there are 2 of them (identical) but I am not sure.

The King has been using his Rolls Royce Phantom for most movements (apparently, he prefers this over the 2002 Bentley State Limousine).

In terms of hearses - in Scotland, a Mercedes E class was used. Today in England, the State Royal Herse has been used (a Jaguar XJ).

The Queen was flown by the RAF from Scotland to England on board a Boeing Globemaster C-17 today, seen here in the background.

Police outriders in London mostly use BMW motorbikes. I believe that they are part of the SEG (Special Escort Group). The screenshot below is from Buckingham Palace just as they arrive / all bow.

I saw a UK news article yesterday about how public support for continued closings during the mourning period is waning.

On this side of the pond, I'm in agreement with them. Let the Premiere League play again, and let the BBC (British Boring Coffin) channel and CryTV go back to reporting the rest of the news.

One thing that I don't get is this morbid desire to watch the coffin sitting there 24/7. Is everyone thinking that it is really a Queen-in-the-box, where the lid will fly open and everyone sings "Pop goes the weasel!" or something?????

We were in a little creperie in Nancy (pronounced Nonsee in your best French accent) yesterday and the owner offered his condolences to my Wife and I for the passing of our Queen.

How cute it was!
