Word of advice; have boring tests available. I can't tell you how many houses sitting on terrible soil have settled during pool installation/excavation.

Yes, I paid ~100k 2021. I was one of the dumb ones that did it during Pandemic. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't as it was literally a pain. But I will say the kids love it and enjoy it tremendously.

I have enough friends with boats to know that I'd never want to own one. A friend had planned to spend $50K on a pool and it ended up costing him around $70K because of "unforeseen" geotechnical issues/complications.

Kinda of the same...we chose the yard over having a pool. The yard is huge, the house is new...so its a blank slate. Will get a pool all in due time

This pic is the backyard of our house in NY.. we just sold&moved South not too long ago. Pool was installed in 2005,IIRC it was $25k. Nothing fancy. Landscaping for the pool was roughly $100k including the large retaining wall behind the pool which is not visible in the pic.
I did all the daily/weekly maintenance myself and the best investment we made was the robot that cleaned the pool so I didn't have to lol. I also closed/opened the pool myself each season and found out after a several years that when we bought a large black 100'x100' tarp and used that on top of the Meyco cover when we closed it for the winter, come springtime when we opened it,the water was crystal clear and I didn't have to shock the water or go crazy with chemicals getting the water where it needed to be. The wife&kid loved the pool;it's not really my thing so I'm fine without one where we currently live. Dogs loved it too.

I'm not a pool guy at all, and I'm condo-for-life, but, man, all you guys have AMAZING setups. Gorgeous. Bravo.

Most of the money went on decking, it was about 2500 Sqft at about $10 per sqft. There was also extras to lift and do the steps by infinity edge, open spa, bubblers etc.

Thank you!! We had 3 acres and loved to entertain in the backyard. We also had a real nice gazebo/fire-pit/beach setup down on the lake so I enjoyed hangin' by the lake much more than sitting around the pool.

The one I bought to replace the coleman here in FL is this one which is apparently still on sale. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Bestway-S...-Spa/952725743 Which appears to be exactly the same as the on in NC just a different color: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Coleman-7...-Spa/549761378 It's a bit smaller than the coleman and definitely 2 adults max... maybe 3 if ya'll veeeerry friendly. I believe these are all made by the same company anyways. They do take a while to heat up, but once they get up to temp they can maintain it easily. Unlike normal hot tubs they make bubbles, but do not have jets. Some people may like this some may not. My gf actual doesn't like jets because she says they irritate her skin. I can take them of leave them, but I do enjoy the bubbles. Last recommendation is these don't really have anything on the "floor" of the tub, so you are basically sitting on the cement or whatever you put it on. So I put down a layer of those square exercice matts first and put the tub on top so it's a nicer surface to sit on. Under $200 I'm happy if it lasts me 2 years. The FL house had a MASSIVE real hot tub in the patio when we bought it. That thing was a nightmare. Always leaking always having issues, so much so the guy I had been using to repair it basically gave up and told me to not call him to fix anymore leaks. Moving it was a nightmare, cleaning it was a nightmare, even getting rid of it was a nightmare. Scared me away from ever getting a "real" hot tub again. |

I’ve had two houses with pools and several without. One of the pool houses had a solar heater on the house roof. This was in Orange, CA, so easy to use - it actually would overheat the pool if we let it. The second pool house was in Lex,KY and had a nat gas heater. That extended the season roughly two months (one at each end). I looked at putting in a solar heater but didn’t want to drain/purge before winter every year, worry about freeze damage, etc. Of course I had to do all of that with the nat gas heater anyway.
We now live in a setting similar to Murf’s and are looking at a swim spa for my wife (therapy/exercise). They aren’t cheap, but they are easy to install and maintain, I think. Probably Spring 2023. |

We had a swim spa when we lived up north and it was fun. However, keeping it at hot tub temps made swimming not fun. It’s hard to fuse two purposes into one unit.
Our current home in AZ has a pool under construction. It ran a little over $80k, and that was without a hot tub attached. We decided a separate stand alone hot tub was better as it won’t heat the pool water, has way more jets, and is easier to service. If we had to redo it, the price would be much more. The pool reps said costs have skyrocketed out of control for supplies, and finding competent workers is near impossible. |

Our’s came with the house so didn’t put it in, but spent around $10K this year resurfacing, changing waterline tiles and replacing the skimmer. There are some pictures in the home project thread.

Theres a bunch of gators in the lake. I always check prior to letting the kids out JIC. I think they're all pretty large already where they won't fit between the fence (around 4" wide). Other than that, no mosquitoes since they treat the lake and I have no standing water anywhere, other than pool.
