Camcorder. Now I regret buying it.

800 dollars could have gone to something much better. Like clothes. Or something for the E90. D'oh.

I have a '98 JVC VHS-C camcorder that I use on my trip to Europe in '98 and '01. This camera weight about 5-6 kg and on '01 trip I used this camera much less that on '98 trip. Since that I rarely use camera, it's working - but I didn't take anymore for any our family vacation.
Now, my European delivery approaching. I don't won't to spend a $700-$1000 for camera. I already planning to add some staff to my new E90 - better spend my $$$ for tint, etc.
And I found this deal in local Costco:
JVC GR-D396 US
JVC Mini DV Camcorder $319 - $50 rebate=$269.99 +tax
I try to found any review for this camera - nothing. Not a good sighn, a?
Any one had experience with this camera?

I know this thread is really old, but I thought I'd add my $0.02.

I have a $500 sony camera that also has a video capture feature. Since we dont really need a camcorder, we use the video capture for little clips here and there. I think it is a better investment to buy a nice camera and a 2gb memory stick than a $1,000 paperweight.

i just got a really good digi cam that has a recording portion on it. i mean i can get 30 min of really good.... nothingness .... recorded without a problem.

i mean really guys, how many times can you record nothingness before it loses its novelty

YouTube is great for posting nothingness! There is so much nothingness compiled there, you dont need to record your own.

I keep NOT buying a Camcorder cause HD or No Just don't have much use for one... I can see renting one occasionally but yeah, mabe when I have kids and feel like torturing my family and friends I can record endless hours of mind numbing child cuteness...

For my upcoming ED trip, I bought a Sony HDR-SR7. I'm still questioning why I bought it since I already spent about $1000 on a Sony TR81 Hi8mm camcorder over 10 years ago.

I did use the TR81 on vacations, but not enough to say I got $1000 worth of enjoyment.

I think I bought this because it was an HD camcorder with a HD.

I think the reason why I bought it was because it's another gadget and I'm a gadget freak.
