People love giving their freedom away in the name of safety. Apparently people can't look at past history and how power was abused for the better good. Germany is a perfect example. Pre Hitler Germany was a beacon for the world and a advanced progressive nation. The tides turned with seemingly innocent changes little by little for "safety". It truly is a snowball effect, give an inch and they'll take it a mile. Once your freedom is gone you won't get it back and once you realize it it's already too late. Most people are short sighted which is the issue. Sorry your employer did that to you. Luckily mine didn't...but that's because I am the employer. |

Yes, because as we have seen time and again what seems like a common sense approach by government gets abused by government.
I want less monitoring of my private life, I don't trust government to only use something like this for its intended purpose. In Canada during covid the government used the tracking of cell phones to monitor the movements of 33 million Canadians, the vast majority of whom are not criminals. |

Why stop at a kill switch? Next up - Speed reduction tech.
These came up in my news feed this morning. Big daddy government could soon be limiting your vehicle’s speed to keep you and everyone else safe. That’s if the National Transportation Safety Bureau gets its way after it concluded speed-limiting technology using GPS coordinates should be equipped on every car in America. Remember, if it saves just one life, instituting sweeping restrictions on personal freedom is always just a small price to pay. https://www.yahoo.com/autos/federal-...130000154.html https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/f...121541145.html

say it with me - Hegelian dialect. Create a problem so you can offer a solution, which includes more tracking and monitoring, less privacy and more restrictions. I'm sure people will call me crazy, but every major event that has occurred has been orchestrated by the government, especially true when it leads to an erosion of "rights" From 9/11 (Patriot Act, and full access for the government to track and restrict your travel) to Covid (full access to biometric data, and the ability to bypass HIPPA and discriminate against you for medical reasons) We'll soon be a society of "robots" where because of no freedoms - you're "safe" |

Maybe I should rethink buying my X6M at lease end. Why the hell do I need 617 hp? Next will be accelerating too quick.

Thank you. I'm as much of a speed freak as the next guy and I love the thought of a X5M in the garage next to the M4CS but who needs a 617Hp SUV that gets 18MPG? I'm sure the cost of ownership of a X5M is over the moon. Not surprising that there are almost always a bunch of low mileage X5M's for sale.

So, I don’t need 617 hp, but it’s the only way for me to have the BMW experience I’ve become accustomed to. I am seriously considering buying my 2022 X6M at lease end because of the direction they (and all car manufacturers) are going with the screen nonsense, but that’s another thread which I have chosen not to post in. Lol. Hijack over. EDIT - the fuel consumption has actually improved. I used to get 13 mpg on my previous BMWs, even the non Ms. I’m getting about 15mpg on my mixed hwy/streets drives. I call them smiles per gallon.

The camels nose is under the tent.
NTSB Calls for Technology to Reduce Speeding in All New Cars 11/14/2023 WASHINGTON (Nov. 14, 2023) – The National Transportation Safety Board investigation into a multivehicle collision in North Las Vegas, Nevada, last year that resulted in nine fatalities has led the board to recommend a requirement for intelligent speed assistance technology in all new cars. Intelligent speed assistance technology, or ISA, uses a car’s GPS location compared with a database of posted speed limits and its onboard cameras to help ensure safe and legal speeds. Passive ISA systems warn a driver when the vehicle exceeds the speed limit through visual, sound, or haptic alerts, and the driver is responsible for slowing the car. Active systems include mechanisms that make it more difficult, but not impossible, to increase the speed of a vehicle above the posted speed limit and those that electronically limit the speed of the vehicle to fully prevent drivers from exceeding the speed limit. To 17 car manufacturers: Install ISA in all new passenger vehicles that, at a minimum, warns drivers when a vehicle is speeding. https://www.ntsb.gov/news/press-rele...R20231114.aspx To those that think this is contrails and gay frogs, won't you be surprised. |
