I've seen some in that color around LA.

I love G wagons. Hopefully one day a spouse and I have the means to get one.

Aren't these things the poster boy for Covid depreciation? If i recall, prices on these went insane, several dealers bought a WHACK of them for like 250K and cannot shift them barely for half that.

I kind of admire the stupidity of the thing but otherwise, hard pass.

If any Kardashian drives something, I won't.

But women seem to drool for them. My niece talks about "one day" and she's a college kid.

Never owned one. Long time ago, a friend who lived in multiple countries at once would leave me his g550 grand edition for months at a time, it was an 04-05 I think. Fun to drive every now and then but I couldn't imagine owning one.

I had an acura tl and a cts at the time but once the novelty wore off, I'd drive it once every 2 weeks or so. Come to think of it the only suvs I enjoyed driving regularly was an x5 or a cayenne.

Like em. I'd probably enjoy them less if they were everywhere here but it's a pretty rare car where I live.

I have the previous generation (2018). If I can turn back time, I would not have bought it.

It looks cool and feels like a tank driving it but 0 comfort.

they are a status symbol imo. similar to ferrari. except with a G wagon you dont have to worry about parking curbs and potholes. and servicing is cheaper. and you can fit more people. A bright colored 4x4(2) is going to turn as many necks as huracan.

An X5 M50i is just as quick as G63 and probably does most things as good for $100k off. but it wont turn any necks or have the glitzy interior

I'm guessing the updated G has really improved the comfort.

There’s one word in your post that answers the question for me. Truck. It may have a really good, nice ride…for a truck, but it’s still a truck. I think BMW has some of the best (maybe the best, okay, Porsche is probably better) riding and handling SUVs made, but at their core they are trucks and I don’t like trucks and I won’t own one. Especially since I’m single and it’s exceedingly unlikely I will ever feel such a strong need to have one that I would choose to own two vehicles. I also don’t like its truck styling, which is basically no styling at all.

Now I have to eat a little crow. Because, it’s highly unlikely I will buy a G20 M340i again, and if I get to the point I have no choice other than to replace my F30 340i M Sport there is at least a fair likelihood it would be with a Porsche Macan.

Most of those you mention are not really trucks. Most CUV are based off of car platforms (BMW, Porsche etc). Only the tanks are actually truck based, so your Landcruiser or 4 Runner.

They may not be body on frame, but they are still trucks. They do not have regular car suspensions. All you have to do is look at the off-road capabilities of the X5 and X3 to see they basically have a truck suspension.

Yeh, they completely overhauled the suspension and interior. The G purists no longer considers that a G since it deviated significantly from its origin.

It’s more like a box shaped S class now. I was shocked at how comfortable it was on the test drive. Def has its own unique feel. The sound of the doors closing never gets old either.

The interior of the previous generation feels like a pile of junk by comparison.

Tragic when your favorite car becomes a "chic car"
What would you do if your buddy showed up with a white Mini Cooper convertible? Buy him a wine cooler?

Article has some cobwebs on it.

The new JCW 1 to 6 Edition is buy and keep material, for myself. 08 S was an absolute hoot around city streets. Not a single issue during 3 year lease. Mini service was top notch.

Supposedly the new G is a completely different vehicle. Personally, I'd go Cayenne GT or AM 707.

Off topic:

Ran across a BMW that has my full attention. Z4 Comprehensive Package.
Smaller and lighter, relatively for new, with 3 pedals has always grabbed my attention.
66, starting, isn't that bad either. Again, relatively. A few tweaks and that rascal could be a riot.

I had a JCW mini cooper 15 years ago and it was fun as shit. Weirdly my dick didn’t fall off either. I was shocked.
